  13. Jones death led to depressionpublished at 12:17

    Rugby League

A team-mate of Danny Jones turned to using cocaine during a state of severe depression following the sudden death of the Wales international, a UK Anti-Doping hearing has been told.

Former Keighley winger Gavin Duffy, 28, has been suspended for 15 months after testing positive for the presence of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, after playing in a reserve game for Keighley last July.

The hearing heard that Duffy had already suffered depression and a drinking problem before relapsing into a state of severe depression following the cardiac arrest and subsequent death of Jones, a close friend he described as a brother.

Reducing his ban by nine months, UKAD say they took into account Duffy's depressive illness and accepted the player acted with "no significant fault or negligence".
