To celebrate, here's a gallery of some quirky Ryan Giggs' moments.
Football
Giggs went on to make a club record 963 appearances for United - and played 64 times for Wales - before hanging up his ell-worn boots in 2014 at the age of 40 to become Louis van Gaal's right-hand man.
Football
It is a momentous day in footballing history.
1991. On as a substitute against Everton. Alas Giggs didn't weave his magic instantly - United lost the match 2-0.
Should tackling be banned in school rugby matches?
We've been asking if tackling should be banned in school rugby matches. It came after more than 70 doctors and academics called for a ban on tackling in games played in UK and Irish schools.
In an open letter to ministers, they say injuries from this "high-impact collision sport" can have lifelong consequences for children.
But you, the Sportsday readers, are not convinced that banning tackling is the best idea.
Thanks to everyone who voted.

8 February, 2000. A great day for fans of then-second-tier Scottish club Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who won 3-1 at Celtic in the third round of the Scottish Cup.
It was also a great day for a sub editor at the Sun, who came up with this fantastic headline.

During the Bournemouth-Southampton game, fourth official Kevin Friendcollapsed and hit his head on a dugout.
Friend, who cut his face, was treated in the tunnel before being taken to hospital, where he has stayed overnight.
The incident happened as the first half came to an end at the Vitality Stadium.
The start of the second half was delayed by five minutes as Friend was replaced by Dean Treleaven, a qualified referee who was watching the match.
Bournemouth 2-0 Southampton
Bournemouth beat Southampton in the league for the first time since 1958 to move eight points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
Bournemouth took the lead when Fraser Forster parried Matt Ritchie's free-kick and Steve Cook volleyed in.
Benik Afobe settled the Cherries' nerves when he headed in at the near post from another Ritchie free-kick.
"In previous games we haven't got the goals when we have been dominant," said manager Eddie Howe. "The whole team functioned, and when we play well we are a difficult team to beat."

Rugby
Now then, this is an interesting one.
More than 70 doctors and academics are calling for a ban on tackling in rugby matches played in UK and Irish schools.
In an open letter to ministers, they say injuries from this "high-impact collision sport" can have lifelong consequences for children.
They argue two thirds of injuries in youth rugby and most concussions are down to tackles and urge schools to move to touch and non-contact rugby.
Supporters say rugby builds character and other forms are less challenging.
