Premier League to cap cost of tickets for away fans at £30published at 13:02 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

    Football

Fans of Premier League clubs will pay no more than £30 for tickets to away matches for the next three seasons.

The cost of watching football has been a hot topic of debate, with supporters at Liverpool organising a high-profile protest over proposed increases in season ticket prices.

Now the top flight's 20 clubs have "unanimously agreed" that more should be done to help away fans.

The £30 away ticket cap will be introduced from next season.

  4. 'Wall of denial' in Russiapublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

There is still "a wall of denial" within Russian athletics and its federation is not doing enough to prove it is ready to participate at this summer's Olympic Games in Rio, Dick Pound has said.

The Russian athletics federation was suspended from all international competition for doping offences in November after a meeting of IAAF council members.

Pound, chair of the World Anti-Doping Agency's independent commission, said: "Even with the presence of credible evidence, there was, and to some extent there still is a wall of denial. Russia, in the sport of athletics, is on the outside trying to get back in. The onus is on it to justify any readmission."

Van Gaal accuses reporter of living in the pastpublished at 12:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

    Football

BBC Sport's Simon Stone was at Manchester United's press conference this morning and was told by United manager Louis van Gaal that he "lives in the past".

We can certainly confirm Simon's wardrobe needs updating, bringing into the 21st century...

But anyway, Stone asked how far United and Liverpool had fallen by meeting in the Europa League. The Dutchman also denied viewing the Merseysiders as an "enemy".

Arsenal players held secret talkspublished at 12:39 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

    Football

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has revealed the squad held clear-the-air-talks to salvage their season, the Evening Standard , externalreports.

“We are not going to lie. We know as a unit it has been tough and we all had a good chat amongst us behind closed doors, without even any of coaches or the manager knowing about anything. It is important that as a team [to know] we have got it in us.

“We just have to produce it more often. You had a sense of the Tottenham game especially, when you go down to 10 men in a big game like that, the belief and the character was there. The never-give-up spirit was there as well. In the derby matches, they could be the matches that turn your season and we may have turned the corner."

When football fell foul of fixingpublished at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

    Football

Liverpool teaming up with Manchester United to fix a football result? It's an unlikely alliance but as the 1914/15 season drew to a close, Manchester United had to beat Liverpool to avoid relegation. The players came to an ungentlemanly agreement.

League football was set to be suspended for the 1915/16 season due to World War One. Footballers, on much lower wages than those today, faced a summer without pay and years in the trenches. Before a game at Easter, players from the two teams met to fix the result: 2-0 in United’s favour with players betting at odds of 8/1.

The game saw missed penalties, team-mates arguing and an angry 18,000 crowd. An investigation saw a number of players given life bans, with one later jailed for conspiracy.

    Football

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is concerned by the injury Aaron Ramsey suffered in the 4-0 FA Cup win at Hull.

Midfielder Ramsey, set to play a key role for Wales at Euro 2016 this summer, was replaced 16 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Arsenal have Laurent Koscielny out and fellow centre-backs Per Mertesacker and Gabriel also picked up injuries.

"The most serious looks to be Ramsey," said Wenger. "I think it's a thigh strain."

    Football

England manager Roy Hodgson has said he will step down after Euro 2016 if the public demand his resignation.

The 68-year-old's contract expires after the tournament in France and although he would like to stay on and lead the team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia he said it wasn't just down to him.

"If it's the time for me to walk away and leave it to someone else, then so be it," Hodgson told Talksport. "I certainly won't be looking to walk away from it. But I won't be clinging on when most people are wishing I wasn't there any more."

Injured England hooker misses rest of Six Nationspublished at 11:13 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

    Rugby Union

We have more news on the injury to England hooker Jamie George.

England forwards coach Steve Borthwick has revealed George may struggle to play again this season after a scan confirmed he will be out for up to 10 weeks.

"Jamie hurt his biceps in training and had a scan. It's a ruptured tendon and it looks like he'll be out for eight to 10 weeks," Borthwick said.

"On the video of the training session, I watched the incident and it looked very innocuous. It was an arm out during a tackle and that was it.

"He carried on training and didn't think much of it, but then realised it was worse than he thought and saw the doctor."

Which sports stars should never get booed and why?

No-one, it seems, is safe from fans' abuse. But who should be?
