Ronaldo booed - and Ramos is not happypublished at 11:04

    Football

Real Madrid fans who jeered Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League win over Roma should "think a little first", says captain Sergio Ramos.

Ronaldo scored one and set up the other as Real progressed with a 2-0 win, but also missed several chances.

The 31-year-old, who has scored more than 350 goals in less than seven seasons with Real, appeared to criticise some of his team-mates in February, although he claimed he was misquoted.

"I respect the fans but when things don't go well they should support their players," said defender Ramos.

Some estimates claim 85,000 people were at the game between Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City. However, the ground should have held at least 20,000 fewer fans.

Smith to remain as GB Davis Cup captainpublished at 10:37 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

    Tennis

There's some good tennis news, at least. Davis Cup-winning captain Leon Smith has extended his contract and will lead the Great Britain team for at least another three years.

The Scot succeeded John Lloyd in 2010 after Britain had suffered the ignominy of defeat by Lithuania and were on the verge of relegation to the competition's bottom tier.

Five years later Smith achieved what had appeared impossible and guided his country to a first Davis Cup title in 79 years with victory over Belgium.

Ah Lewis Hamilton and his sartorial elegance. That red coat. That grey fake (we presume) fur trim. Could anyone other than a man who has won three world titles pull off such a look? The Mercedes driver was, by the way, quite appropriately, at Paris Fashion Week.

Suarez returns to Liverpoolpublished at 10:22 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

    Football

What would Liverpool fans give to see Luis Suarez in a Liverpool shirt once again?

Bit of a pointless question really as it's unlikely to happen any time soon. Instead, they must gain comfort from the fact that the Barcelona forward says that the club is "so important in my life."

The Uruguay international returned to the club's training ground in Melwood, saying: "It was fantastic to see the lads. Everyone here is really nice and I miss them, so I wanted to come and see some friends."

Louis van Gaal news conferencepublished at 10:09 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

Liverpool v Manchester United (Thur, 20:05 GMT)

Tomorrow will be the first meeting in European competition between England's two most successful clubs, so, naturally, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is asked whether it means more to him to beat Liverpool.

He replies: "For me, I want to win every game. When I lose I am very disappointed. My body language is very expressive. It is encouraging that Manchester United have beaten Liverpool so many times.

"When I beat teams like Liverpool, the appreciation of the fans is bigger. I hope we beat them for the fifth and sixth times (since he took over).

"Liverpool are also a very good team. They have high level players, play like a team and it is more difficult to beat them."

Here's more from Dick Pound, who was head of Wada from 1999 to 2007, who says Sharapova has made a "big mistake" and "should have known" the consequences of using it.

"Anytime there is a change to the list, notice is given on 30 September prior to the change," he said.

"You have October, November, December to get off what you are doing.

"All the tennis players were given notification of it and she has a medical team somewhere. That is reckless beyond description."
