So will Steve McClaren still be manager of Newcastle United at the end of today?

Former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez is tipped to take over and local newspaper The Chronicle want the club to get on with it and bring in the Spaniard.

Some reaction from last night's European football where Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0 and Tottenham lost 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League.

French newspaper L'Equipe is still enjoying Paris St-Germain's elimination of Chelsea on Wednesday to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

'The perfect plan' is the headline along with a picture of PSG coach Laurent Blanc.

Spanish sports newspaper Marca has gone into full transfer-speculation mode today by listing 12 players on their front page that Real Madrid are apparently interested in signing.

The list includes Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, Everton defender John Stones and Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, as well as Barcelona forward Neymar, Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

It is going to be a lively summer for Real Madrid fans, and an expensive one for the club's owners if this story is correct.

And Howe has sent his thoughts to the 60-year-old Italian.

"Sometimes things happen that are more important than football, a person's health is always that," he says.  

"So we wish Francesco Guidolin all the best. I look forward to seeing him back in the dugout."  

When the sides met in November, Swansea, who were then managed by Garry Monk, came back from 2-0 down to earn a draw but although Howe was disappointed on the day, he accepts now that it wasn't a bad result for his side.

"It was a positive moment away at Swansea because we were able to stop a bad run. We really moved on from that point," he said.   

And Joshua King, who scored the Cherries's opener that day, has also earned praise from Howe.

"Joshua King has been excellent," Howe adds. "It's always difficult to integrate new players, but he's grown & worked very hard."

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is up and at it early today to face the media ahead of his side's Premier League game against Swansea on Saturday and is targetting three points with his side currently on 35 points in 14th spot - two place and two points ahead of the Swans.

"A victory on Saturday won't guarantee us Premier League survival," he admits. "But maximum points always helps.

"We had a good week last week. Before we'd spoken about improving our home form, now we want to continue with that."

After their defeat, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said he had no regrets about making seven changes to his side, including naming striker Harry Kane as a substitute.

"I am very disappointed with the result. It was a bad day in the office but we need to accept that," he said.

"We picked the starting XI to try and win the game."

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has described his former side's display during their 2-0 Europa League defeat at Liverpool as shambolic.

Scholes, who made 718 appearances for United, told BT Sport that the Old Trafford club "have certain standards and they have fallen well short".

He added: "Liverpool had a way of playing. United didn't have a clue."

Last night's Europa League action proved to be a bit of a mixed bag for the English clubs left in it.

Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0 with goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino while Spurs lost 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
