    What a corker.

Apple's Jade and Ivanovich Gorbatov neck and neck until the final few yards and it's the 4-1 favourite trained by Aidan O'Brien who takes by just over a length.

Ruby Walsh, who spent 70% of the race as the back marker on Footpad, made a late charge to finish in third.

Here's hoping that sets the bar for today's entertainment.

Kevin de Bruyne has been a big miss for Manchester City after damaging knee ligaments but, along with a couple of other team-mates, could be back in action soon.

“Samir Nasri started working again with the whole squad yesterday," says City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

"We hope that in the international break the three of them, Fabian Delph, Nasri and De Bruyne will play in a friendly with the Under-21s.”

But we start with the JCB Triumph Hurdle where the Aidan O'Brien trained Ivanovich Gorbatov goes off as 4-1 favourite.

    Willie Mullins has three entries.

    Football

Manchester City have been drawn to face Paris St-Germain in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with the first leg in the French capital.

“You never know what’s an easy draw when you’re with the eight best teams on the continent," says City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

"Maybe one team has less names than another team but they’re at this stage so they deserve to be there because they beat other teams.

“It’s better to be away first – I prefer always to finish at home so you know always what you must do in your home stadium.

“In my opinion, Barcelona is the team that made the difference but all the other teams are all the same.”

Newcastle v Sunderland (Sunday, 13:30 GMT)

Rafael Benitez can make himself an instant hero at Newcastle. His first home game since he replaced Steve McClaren as the club's boss is against fierce rivals Sunderland.

"We know every game between now and the end of the season is important, but especially this one," says Benitez.

"A derby is massive for the city and the fans. We have to try and win. The fans are crucial for us. We have to stick together and be sure that every fan can help the players on the pitch.

"The players have commitment, they are working very hard and are trying to understand our ideas of what we want to do."

Kompany & Otamendi updatepublished at 13:09 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

Man City v Man Utd (Sunday, 16:00 GMT)

Manchester City defenders Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi both came off injured early on during the club's Champions League second leg tie at home to Dynamo Kiev in midweek.

City play Manchester United on Sunday and boss Manuel Pellegrini says: “Talking with the doctor, I think that Vincent has an injury in the other calf, not the same one as last time.

"We’ll see in the way he’ll improve – maybe one month he can be ready. I think he could play again this season."

“We’ll see with Otamendi tomorrow – Nico is running but it’s a risk if he takes another kick on the same leg. We’ll assess him on Saturday."

Manchester United must beat Manchester City on Sunday to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, says manager Louis van Gaal.

United were knocked out of the Europa League by Liverpool and next face City, who are four points ahead of them in fourth place in the Premier League.

"We have to beat City because that is the other chance to qualify for the Champions League," said Van Gaal.

"The expectations are always high. We know that and we can cope with that."

"Anything less than victory against Manchester United's in Sunday's derby will not only surely end any hopes Manuel Pellegrini has of leaving Manchester City as Premier League champions, but will also leave a danger they could miss out on the top four and won't be in the Champions League when Pep Guardiola takes over in the summer.

"The Blues still have this season's Champions League to focus on too, and Pellegrini will give his reaction to facing PSG in the next round.

"And he's sure to be asked too about the state of the City defence ahead of the Manchester derby, with Nicolas Otamendi doubtful and captain Vincent Kompany facing as long as six weeks out with his latest calf problem."
