If Leicester City can defy the odds, then Manchester City surely can right?

Three games against Real Madrid, two draws and one defeat. In fact, in competitive matches they have only beaten Spanish opposition twice on foreign soil (having played seven matches over there).

Plenty of connections between the two sides: Steve McManaman transferred from Real Madrid to Manchester City in 2003, whilst Emmanuel Adebayor went the other way in 2011 on loan. Javi Garcia went from Spain to England via Benfica and Robinho was City's first big signing under Sheikh Mansour in 2008 costing the Blues £32.5m from the Spanish giants. Finally, Nicolas Anelka won the 1999/00 Champions League with Real Madrid, before a move to PSG and later Manchester City in 2002.

And let's not forget, City's manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has also managed Real Madrid.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is in the Manchester Evening News, external explaining how the team have adapted to the Champions League this season:

“I think this year the whole team has understood how to play in the Champions League. And that was important, especially in the matches we played away from home at Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach, and against Dynamo Kiev and Paris Saint Germain.

“It was about having a more cohesive team, a more compact team that doesn’t give the opponent as many goalscoring opportunities.

“And in attack we have some quality players who showed their strength and quality in those matches, so you can see the difference from the last two years to this year."

Also, Spurs' Mousa Dembele has been charged for "an alleged act of violent conduct" on Diego Costa (an alleged eye gouge) which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

On this, the FA statement reads: "It is alleged the player’s behaviour constituted violent conduct in circumstances where the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient."

The clubs have until 6pm on Monday 9 May to respond to their charges. Dembele has until 6pm on Thursday 5 May.

Tottenham and Chelsea have been charged with failing to control their players during Monday's 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

The standard fine for such a rules breach is £20,000.

Jurgen Klopp has also had a playful little nibble at Pep Guardiola after his Bayern Munich team lost to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals. It was the third time a Guardiola team has gone out in the last four to a side from Spain.

"I never lost against a Spanish team in a semi-final," said Klopp with a grin. "Spanish football as a package is quite impressive. They are clever enough, dirty enough. Experienced, that is how they are.

"I know how difficult it is but I feel more the chance than I am afraid of something - so let's try."

Midfielder Emre Can "is ready to return to the squad for sure" and what of striker Daniel Sturridge? Will he start? "I was waiting for this question. He could be, 100%, but I've made no decision."

    That's cleared that up, then.

Jurgen Klopp began his portion of the news conference with praise for champions Leicester City, before moving on to matters closer to home...

"Congratulations to Leicester from bottom of my heart," said the German. "Even if you're not fan everyone thinks it's deserved."

He added: "If we play our best we then we can go to the final. These players gave me a lot of positive signs about their qualities.

"We are ready. All we did since October was to be perfectly prepared for a game like this tomorrow. We are not expecting a guarantee to go to the final. We are expecting everything and see what we get for it.

"It is a moment for whole Liverpool world. Everyone will be involved but there is absolutely no pressure. We will do everything for all of us."
