Mark Kent: Rooney hasn't been our best striker for a few seasons now. Roy's love for him is unfounded. Rooney is now more suited to playing at No. 10.

Benny McGee: It hasn't been Wayne Rooney for years. He's stumbled over the line as England's top scorer yet regularly does nothing in the tournaments.

Dwayne Adams: Only in England could you be one of the top goal scorers EVER and be treated like it's only you that doesn't perform at the big tournaments. Who has?

Alan Shearer doesn't believe Wayne Rooney is England's best striker. Who is?

Kirsty Angus: Although Kane and Vardy aren't proven internationals, their form this season warrants Rooney not being top choice. I'd go Kane.

Dave James King: 27 goals this season, top goalscorer in the Football League Matty Taylor, failing that Harry Kane

Big Rob: This season you've got to go with Rashford, Defoe and Vardy to start....

Of course, Roy Hodgson hasn't given himself the Jermain Defoe option by not selecting him in the squad.

Shearer says the current England skipper is more suited to a midfield role, behind Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy.

What do you think? Agree with Alan? Or is England's all-time leading goalscorer still the main main? Maybe there is there a forward not chosen by Roy Hodgson who should have been selected.
