    David de Gea to Manchester United - the zombie transfer deal. 

    Just when you think it has been finally been killed off, it comes back to live again.

    Spanish newspaper AS report today that the goalkeeper is hopeful of reviving his move to the Bernabeu as there is a release clause of £39m in his United contract.

    The clause expires on 15 June apparently though so the two teams better start sorting the paperwork already if August's horlicks was anything to go by.

    Jess Varnish has said in a statement, external that she is determined to win back her place on the British Cycling team ahead of the Rio Olympics and plans to meet new performance director Andy Harrison when she returns from a training stint in Australia.

    Varnish criticised Harrison's predecessor Shane Sutton after she was was dropped from the Great Britain squad in April, claiming the Australian told her to "go and have a baby".

    Sutton subsequently stepped down from his position.

    Sheffield Wednesday held off a spirited Brighton side to reach the Championship play-off final at Wembley on 28 May.

    Lewis Dunk put the hosts ahead when he volleyed in a set-piece from Anthony Knockaert, who also hit the post during a dominant first-half display.

    But Ross Wallace, who scored in the Owls' 2-0 first-leg win, saw his cross drift in for the equaliser that secured a 3-1 aggregate win.

    Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is very close to agreeing to stay at the club, according to Times journalist George Caulkin.

    The Spaniard had been expected to depart St James' Park following the Magpies’ relegation to the Championship. 

    However, according to Caulkin, talks with owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley have convinced him to stay.

    “There was a three-hour meeting with Mike Ashley on Sunday night... he met with Lee Charnley – that's gone very positively indeed. He's already looking at potential signings for Newcastle", said Caulkin.
