Former England flanker Steffon Armitage will join French side Pau, ruling out a return to the national side.

RFU rules stipulate players must play their club rugby in England to be eligible for international selection.

Armitage, 30, had been linked with a return to England after Wasps showed interest in signing the former European Player of the Year.

He won five England caps in 2009-10 but has played in France since 2011.

Carvalhal 'has signed new deal'published at 13:26 British Summer Time 27 May 2016

    Football

Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal says he signed a new three-year contract in the build-up to their Championship play-off final with Hull.

Carvalhal, who replaced Stuart Gray in 2015, led the side to sixth place. They face Hull at Wembley tomorrow for a place in the top flight - a division they have not been in for 16 years.

The Portuguese said: "I signed for another three years here. I didn't want to sign for that long - I wanted one year - but the chairman wanted three.

"If this happens, I'm happy. Being happy is the people around you enjoying what you are doing. If they are, I can stay here 10 years."

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone added: "The success has been in our continuity and our work. There are very few teams better than Atletico - Bayern, Barcelona and maybe Real but very few others.

"It's down to stability, balance, work, enormous competitiveness, internally and externally. That has put us where we are and the only way to keep that going is to keep winning."

Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid (Sat, 19:45 BST)

"Tomorrow I have the chance to fulfill my childhood dream," Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres said.

The 32-year-old is in his second spell at Atleti and, after his career appeared to be fizzling out, he has rediscovered his form in the past three months after hitting his 100th goal for the club.

It is the final game of his loan spell from AC Milan but reports suggest he will stay with the Spanish side.

"Without any doubt it's the most important, special and lovely game of my life," he said.

"Anything I can do with the club that gave me the chance to start my career, the team I was a fan of since I was five years old, is different to anything else I've won.

"I won things with Chelsea, with Spain, but this is different, this is special. It's what I wanted when I was a kid, more than I dreamed."

"The opponent is very strong, with a good team, a good coach, they are a team from the Premier League, but we have 50% of the chances," he said.

"If our fans create the environment, we are positive and healthy, we can be very strong. Let's see what we can do."

Here's Hull boss Steve Bruce's thoughts on Saturday's 17:00 BST kick-off at Wembley:

"If we do get to the heights then it takes a very, very good team to beat us,

"We have none of the excuses, now we've had 10 days to prepare and a whole week to build up to face a good Sheffield side.

"We are capable of putting in an awful performance, which usually happens in the second or the third game in a short period of time, but we know we can perform."

'Mourinho hits the right note'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 27 May 2016

    Football

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

"If there has been any change in Jose Mourinho since he was sacked in December, it clearly isn’t his ability with words.

"In his first two public utterances since being appointed Manchester United manager this morning, he has come out with statements that will hit just the right note with fans.

"His 'romance and mystique' quote in the original statement will fuel supporters’ view of United, whilst at the same time, irritating the huge clubs he has already managed.

"And in saying to MUTV he intends to 'forget' the last three years, he is articulating what fans feel. The club, under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, have simply not been good enough since the exit of Sir Alex Ferguson."
