Hodgson appeals to fans to "stay out of trouble"published at 12:02 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    Football

England manager Roy Hodgson has pleaded with fans to stay out of trouble and continue to support the team on the field.

"As England manager I am obviously very concerned about the threat which is now hanging over us and the sanctions that could be imposed upon the England team.

"We worked very hard to get here and we really desperately want to stay in the competition.

"I am appealing therefore to our fans - and we appreciate your support at the matches of course - but I am appealing to you to stay out of trouble and to try and make certain that these threats that are being issued are never carried out and we will be able to attempt to do the best we can to stay in this competition by football means".

Former England captain David Beckham believes Roy Hodgson's side will defeat Wales when they meet in their Euro 2016 group game on Thursday.

He was speaking at Queen's tennis club in London ahead of its annual tournament, and watched his son Romeo, 13 - a promising tennis player - pick up a few tips from British number one Andy Murray.

Fans charged after Euro 2016 violencepublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

Six Britons, one Austrian and three Frenchman are to be tried following violence in Marseilles, but 150 "well-trained" Russian hooligans escaped arrest.

"There were 150 Russian supporters who in reality were hooligans," the city's chief prosecutor Brice Robin told a news conference.

"These people were well prepared for ultra-rapid, ultra-violent action. These are extremely well-trained people."

Most of the 35 people who were injured in the fighting were English, including one who is in a "critical but stable condition".
