    Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League this summer, after spending a year in Turkey with Fenerbache.

    The Mirror are reporting, external that Stoke and Middlesbrough are in pole position for the 32-year-old's signature, after West Ham turned down the opportunity to bring him back to London.

    The Dutchman scored 16 goals in 31 appearances for Fenerbache last year.

    A decision will be made on whether Russia are allowed to compete at the Rio Olympics "within seven days", an International Olympic Committee spokesperson has said.

    The IOC said on Tuesday it will "explore the legal options" before deciding whether to implement "a collective ban" on all Russian competitors for the global showpiece, which starts on 5 August.  

    IOC media relations chief Emmanuelle Moreau told AFP on Wednesday: "We expect (to have) a decision within seven days on the participation of Russian competitors in Rio."

    This follows the findings of the McLaren report, which said urine samples of Russian competitors were manipulated across the "vast majority" of summer and winter Olympic sports from late 2011 to August 2015.

    WWE heavyweight Brock Lesnar has returned a second positive doping test, the UFC has announced.

    Lesnar, 39, tested positive for an unnamed substance in an in-competition sample after his UFC 200 heavyweight victory over Mark Hunt on 9 July.

    The same substance was found in an out-of-competition sample from 28 June.

    A UFC statement said the United States Anti-Doping Agency would "handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case".

    James Wilson's Manchester United future was cast into doubt when he was left out of Jose Mourinho's 25 man squad for the China tour, and the Sun are reporting, external that Fulham are poised to sign him.

    The 20-year-old striker looked to have a bright future at Old Trafford after scoring twice on his debut under Ryan Giggs at the end of the 2013/14 season, but struggled under Louis van Gaal and spent last season on loan at Brighton.

    The Sun report that Fulham are set to sign him on a season-long loan.

    We told you earlier that Schalke general manager Christian Heidel has confirmed that reported Manchester City target Leroy Sane has asked to leave the club. Here's some quotes circulating in the German media.

    "Sane has clearly expressed that he would like to change (clubs)," Heidel told German newspaper Bild.

    "We have to accept it. We will correspond if the conditions for Schalke are in order.

    "I can not confirm that the deal is in the final phase. That would mean that he could be gone tomorrow or the next day."

    Open champion Henrik Stenson says he may need another nine major titles before he can be compared to Sweden's iconic footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

    Stenson won his first major on Sunday with a record-low total at Royal Troon.

    His compatriot has joined Manchester United after spells with top European clubs including Barcelona and AC Milan - and combined transfer fees of £150m.

    "I think I said I needed to win 10 majors to get up to his recognition," Stenson told BBC Radio 5 live.

    “I’m really honoured to be part of this amazing club, this amazing team," said the Estonian centre-back.

    “It’s hard to put it into words, because it’s been a dream of mine for 22 years to come to the Premier League and be a part of this amazing club, Liverpool.

    Liverpool have confirmed the signing of 30-year-old Estonia centre-back Ragnar Klavan from FC Augsburg.

    Klavan, who has appeared 112 times for his country, is believed to have cost the club €5m (£4.2m), with reports suggesting he has signed a three-year deal.
