China wants to get 300 million citizens involved in winter sports by the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and plans to encourage them by building more than 500 ice skating rinks and 240 ski slopes over the next six years, the government said.

The country's top economic planner said on Friday that the number and scale of China's current facilities did not match its winter sports development targets.

Cities with a population of more than 500,000 people will be encouraged to build public ice skating rinks and the government is also looking to construct rinks on suitable rivers and lakes.

Wenger happy with Wilshere progress during loan spellpublished at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2016

Arsenal v Bournemouth (Sunday, 14:15 GMT)

Arsenal take on Bournemouth on Sunday, but the Cherries will be without influential midfielder Jack Wilshere who is ineligible as he is on loan from the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger has been talking about the surprise decision to send the England midfielder out on loan.

"I'm happy he is developing well and it was a good decision to go to Bournemouth as he gets regular football," said Wenger. "The observations I am getting is that he is getting stronger every week and that is what he needed. I am happy he has not had any injuries.

"When a player like Jack is in top form, you miss him always. We want to win games and the solution is to focus on the offensive performance and be tight at the back rather than expect any weakness from Bournemouth."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who we will be hearing from shortly, might have found winning away from home quite tough in the Champions League this season but there have been no such problems in the Premier League.

In six games, the only time they have failed to win was at Tottenham on 2 October.

They have scored 15 goals in their other five games – and scored six at Burnley in April 2010.

Nathan Simmonds: Lee Bullen to Sheffield Wednesday for free. Went on to play in every position including goalkeeper, now assistant manager.

Dan Vaughan: Love a bargain, but Lambert (£1m), Davis (800k), Fonte (£1.2m) stand out as absolute steals. Buy low, sell high too.

'We should all be proud of Gerrard'published at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2016

Swansea v Crystal Palace (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has been asked about the retirement of former England captain Steven Gerrard, whose late equaliser in the 2006 FA Cup final denied Pardew a cup victory when in charge of West Ham.

"I have good memories and some bad memories of Steven Gerrard. I think I'd have won a cup final if it wasn't for his moment of brilliance," says Pardew. "Liverpool's European (Champions League) win (in 2005) wouldn't have happened without him.

"I know people that have worked with him and they talk about his professionalism and he will bring that to coaching.

"I hope we do not lose him (from football) and I hope he gets into the (management) system quickly. We should all be very proud he is English."
