Defender Phil Jones says he never thought about leaving Manchester United in the summer.

After missing 10 months with a variety of injuries, Jones, 24, has started United’s last three games.

It did look at one period as though he would be an early casualty of Jose Mourinho’s arrival, and was heavily linked with Stoke before the summer transfer deadline.

“No, definitely not,” he said, when asked about the possibility of quitting United after last night’s 4-0 win over Feyenoord.

“I am just delighted to be back playing. My body’s stiff and I have a few cuts and bruises but it’s good to be back.”

Jones said: “There has been a bit of banter in the dressing room but he takes it with a pinch of salt.

“It's been difficult period for him but it's water off a duck's back. He's dealt with that throughout his career.”

Moyes happy with Anichebe contributionpublished at 11:40 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2016

Liverpool v Sunderland (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

David Moyes says he is happy with the partnership between Victor Anichebe and Jermain Defoe, with the pair scoring five goals in the last two games for Sunderland.

Moyes though was keen to highlight that it will not be easy for Anichebe, 28, to always be firing, adding: "Anichebe has done well and he is a good player but lets put it in context, he is not a £20m forward.

"In him we have a centre forward who I believe in and who is very capable, but there will be games when he is in top form and games when he is not."
