Who should be in the 2016 team of the year and why?

Fifa's 55-man shortlist (see 09:01) for the FifPro world team of the year has proved a good source of debate this morning. Here are some more thoughts on those who should be in the team, and those who shouldn't have been included.

GR: My TOTY would be: Buffon, Juanfran, Pepe, Godin, Marcelo, Kante, Vidal, Ozil, Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez.

Ben Wright: PL players on the list who shouldn't be: Claudio Bravo, David Luiz, Paul Pogba. PL players not on the list who should be: Hugo Lloris, Laurent Koscielny, Toby Alderweireld, Riyad Mahrez, Harry Kane.

Oliver Reville: How are Kane and Lloris not on there?! Golden Boot winner in the Premier League and Euros finalist goalkeeper?!

Keep out Kane - warns Bradleypublished at 10:54

Tottenham v Swansea (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

Swansea manager Bob Bradley has challenged his defenders to find the focus to keep Tottenham striker Harry Kane quiet at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

"He is a striker where everybody must concentrate for every moment because the slightest lapse is when he pounces. So it is mainly a test of awareness and concentration," the American explains.

Swansea have not beaten Spurs in the league since a 2-0 success at the Vetch Field in October 1982 and Bradley adds: "When you play them you have to do a lot of things really well because they are going to press and make it difficult for you to find a passing rhythm."

Barca 'could have signed Ronaldo'published at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

And we will stay with Barca for this revelation from their former chairman Joan Laporta that he was he was offered the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo for 17m euros in the summer he joined Manchester United, 2003.

"We had already signed Ronaldinho, Rafael Marquez and Ricardo Quaresma so we weren't able to spend that much," Laporta explains.

"He had a deal with United for 19m euros but we were offered him for 17m."

Arsene Wenger said he could have signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic - and a host of other big-name players - for Arsenal, but who was the player your club could have signed and didn't, your worst "what you could have won?" Did a player you wanted end up joining your rivals?

Former Barcelona midfield maestro Xavi Hernandez cannot imagine Lionel Messi leaving the Catalan club, despite the Argentine forward stalling over a new contract with the La Liga champions.

"I'm in contact with Messi and I think he's happy and satisfied. He knows Barcelona is the best club in the world for him and I can't see him in any other club," Xavi, who now plays for Al Sadd in Qatar, told radio station Cope.

Klopp always had faith in Reds' defencepublished at 10:35 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

Bournemouth v Liverpool (Sunday, 13:30 GMT)

Things are going well for Liverpool at the moment with the club unbeaten in 15 games in all competitions and have not conceded a goal in their last three.

"I was never worried about the defence performance, the strength and skills," says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. "I respect you (the media) have to talk about one or two things and when we conceded you need to talk about it but we have to think more of it from a logical point of view. You cannot play football without conceding.

"Working longer together helps a lot. In England you like to put it on one player - 'because of him we conceded goals' - but it's a team game. It's defending together and about having the luck in the right situation.

"You only need to fix that and it is hard to create chances against you."

Poch laments loss of Sigurdssonpublished at 10:30 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

Tottenham v Swansea (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino admits the club made a mistake by selling Gylfi Sigurdsson to Saturday's opponents Swansea.

The Iceland international produced seven goals and 10 assists for the Swans in 2014-15, 11 goals and four assists last term and has four goals and four assists already in the current campaign.

"I think after he moved to Swansea and we saw his development at Swansea he was a perfect player for us," Pochettino said.

"But in that moment it was the club decision and his decision to move to Swansea and find another way."

Who should be in the 2016 world team of the year and why?

The FifPro shortlist for world team of the year has been announced (see 09:01 GMT entry) and we're asking who deserves to be in the team.

Akshay: Vastly underrated and hugely influential, Santi Cazorla should have made the cut. AFC stats with and without him tell the story.

Alex Winterton: Only Kante and Bellerin from the Premier League get anywhere near. Should make the bench at least. Usual suspects for the other nine.

Rightly so?: Marco Reus for sure! Even though he was out for half the year. He's a truly brilliant striker!

Pulis 'really disappointed' by verdictpublished at 10:21 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    Football

    Pat Murphy
    BBC Midlands football reporter

Tony Pulis says he's 'really disappointed' at the £3.7m plus costs judgement against him over his controversial departure from Crystal Palace in August 2014.

Pulis says he's been advised not to say anything more at this stage, but he promises to give his version of events in the future.

The damning comments from a tribunal about Pulis' behaviour at Palace - confirmed publicly this week by a High Court judge - will have no impact on his job at West Brom.

Pulis has been advised by the club's Chinese owners and chairman John Williams that it's business as usual - nothing to do with West Brom.

Klopp expecting 'tough' runpublished at 10:15 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

Bournemouth v Liverpool (Sunday, 13:30 GMT)

Liverpool are second in the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp's side play Bournemouth, West Ham and Middlesbrough - all in the bottom half of the table - in their next three league games.

"Bournemouth are doing really well and were unlucky against Arsenal last week," said Klopp. "They could have had a penalty.

"West Ham have a lot of quality and we should not look at their position in the table.

"Middlesbrough away, everyone has had problems there. I can't see those games as an easy journey. They are all tough games."

Stoke v Burnley (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

Burnley have won four home games but are yet to win away in the league this term, losing four of their five on their travels, and Mark Hughes says: "They seem to have more of a problem away from home, which is understandable. It's difficult to pick up away points.

"It was initially a struggle for us when I first came here but we are more adept at going on the road and picking up good results now."

No thoughts to sell anyone - Klopppublished at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

Bournemouth v Liverpool (Sunday, 13:30 GMT)

England striker Daniel Sturridge has not scored a Premier League goal this season and only started four league games in 2016-17. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is asked if the 27-year-old has a long-term future at the club.

"The funny thing is you and your colleagues create stories and then ask me about stories which are not a story," said Klopp.

"I have no thoughts to sell any player from the first-team squad.

"Daniel is not in training and that is what I am more concerned about rather than any transfer rumours but I'm prepared for January and the questions you will ask. Should be funny."

Klopp pleased with Lallana and Firmino progresspublished at 10:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

Bournemouth v Liverpool (Sunday, 13:30 GMT)

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is the latest manager to talk to the media. He gives an update on the fitness of attacking midfielder Adam Lallana and forward Roberto Firmino.

Lallana suffered a groin injury on England duty last month, while Firmino has had a calf problem.

"I'm happy about each player back in training and Adam was training on Thursday, his first session," says Klopp. "We need to see how he reacts to intensity of training but all good.

"Roberto trained yesterday too. It is painful but not that serious. He is quite a tough guy."
