League position positive for Koemanpublished at 13:46 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

Everton v Manchester United (Sunday, 16:00 GMT)

Everton have only chalked up one victory in their last eight matches, a 2-0 win against West Ham at the end of October, but they still sit in seventh place in the league, just one point below this weekends opponents Manchester United.

Manager Ronald Koeman said: "First you need to work hard, that’s the best way to turn things around. It’s a big game on Sunday against a big club, but still we are in a good position in the table.

"If someone had asked me at the start of the season, you are seventh and one point behind sixth in December I would have been happy with that.

"You need to be realistic, one win in eight is not good enough but you need to work hard but we are still unbeaten at home and that is a big positive.

Carroll back in West Ham squad for Arsenal challengepublished at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

West Ham United v Arsenal (Saturday, 17:30 GMT)

Having not played since August, talisman Andy Carroll is poised to make his comeback against fourth-placed Arsenal. Last season in this fixture he became the first Premier League player to score a hat-trick against Arsenal since Wayne Rooney in 2011.

"Andy Carroll will be in the squad," says Hammers boss Slaven Bilic. "He is not ready to play 90 minutes but he is ready to make an impact. He played a great game against Arsenal last season and had one of the best 45 minutes last season. That is what he is capable of."

Two of his team mates won't be involved though.

"The injuries to Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio are not bad but they should be ready for the game against Liverpool," adds the Croat.

Big respect to Rosberg - Chiltonpublished at 13:35 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

World champion Nico Rosberg retires from Formula 1

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former Formula 1 driver Max Chilton has just been speaking to BBC Radio 5 live after the shock retirement from the sport of world champion Nico Rosberg.

“Nico’s father (Keke) was in F1 in the era we call the killer years, when cars were over 1,000 horsepower with nowhere near the safety they have now, cars would often be on fire," Chilton said.

“Maybe Nico used to fear his father being injured and doesn’t want that now for his children.

"He’s set a goal of being world champion and he’s done that. Maybe he’s got other ambitions in life. He’s on top of the world at the moment. Big respect for him to cancel a drive with the best manufacturer in the world."

Koeman 'team lacking in confidence'published at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

Everton v Manchester United (Sunday, 16:00 GMT)

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has been speaking to the media. His side are without a league win in three games and suffered a defeat at the hands of former club Southampton last time out.

His side have a tricky match at home to Manchester United this week but the Dutchman is concentrating on how his side can improve.

"It is no different, we believe in the way we train and communicate to the players about mistakes and positive things in the team," he said. "Maybe with a lack of confidence it is always difficult, you need to give them the confidence to start again. First you need to work hard, that’s the best way to turn things around.

"We need to show more than we did in the last few weeks. Now we need to be strong and we need personality in the team, it is more difficult to show your commitment in the difficult times."

Everton v Manchester United (Sunday, 16:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Carrington

A rare appearance in front of the media for Jose Mourinho today.

Mourinho’s dismissal against West Ham last weekend meant assistant Rui Faria looked after the post-match obligations.

The Manchester United boss then chose not to do press conferences before or after the EFL Cup win over the Hammers on Wednesday.

So, it is the first chance to ask him about his one-match ban, £16,000 fine and apparently unhappy demeanour.

I wonder if Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Bastian Schweinsteiger might get a mention when Mourinho speaks at 13:30 GMT.

"Until now, it has been like this (overcoming a loss), and I really hope it happens again now," Mazzarri told reporters.

Who should be in the 2016 world team of the year and why?

Our debate today has focused on the FifPro nominees (see 09:01 GMT) to get into the team of the year. Not everyone agrees.

Kastriot Shabani: My team of the year would have Oblak, Bellerin, Ramos, Godin, Felipe Luis, Mahrez, Ozil, Payet, Neymar, Vardy and Kane.

Akanni Tolulope Af: Guess Coutinho helping Liverpool to the Europa League final and League Cup final isn't enough, maybe he needs to make a big money transfer before being considered.

Liam Crook: David Luiz over Alderweireld and Koscielny.... and Claudio Bravo? Not sure.

Puel happy with schedulepublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

Crystal Palace v Southampton (Saturday, 15:00 GMT)

Southampton boss Claude Puel insists he is fully prepared for a busy winter schedule in his first campaign in English football.

Saints visit Crystal Palace in their fourth fixture amid a run of eight in 25 days.

"I have the habits with many seasons to train or to play every three days with all my clubs, except Nice," said the 55-year-old, who has also managed Lyon, Lille and Monaco.

"I prefer to play every three days (than) to prepare one week (for) the next game. The players like this also. They prefer playing different games than making training sessions every time."
