We're wrapping up 45 minutes earlier than usual to make way for our Ballon d'Or live text coverage.

The countdown to the countdown is on...

The Ballon d'Or ceremony will be starting shortly - 16:30 GMT to be precise - and there will be a special live text commentary starting then on the BBC Sport website.

The iconic award, presented by France Football magazine, is given to the world's best player as voted by 173 journalists from across the globe.

Leicester City's Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are among eight Premier League players named on a 30-man shortlist.

There will be a countdown of all 30 nominees to number one, with the winner due to be announced at 19:00.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis says striker Saido Berahino will feature in the Premier League 2 game against Wolves on Monday night.

"It'll be his first game for a few months," he added.

Pulis says he has plenty of players competing for places in his side.

"We have players waiting desperately to get back in our team like James (McCLean) and Nacer (Chadli). The XI have worked hard and have done well.  

"We are going to be linked with loads of people. I will always do my business with other clubs first and keep away from press"  

What better way to prepare for the Ballon d'Or presentation that many people are backing you to win, than by taking a nap beneath your own branded blanket.

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to challenge Barcelona rival Lionel Messi for the prestigious Ballon d'Or prize on Monday, with the winner announced in a ceremony which begins at 16:30 GMT.  

The pair have monopolised the award since Kaka won it in 2007 but is it time for a different winner?

"He's done well though and from the outside looking in Southampton always appoint well and recruit well. 

"They have a good model there and have spent the money well that they've received for players in recent years."

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has been talking about the impressive experience he has gained in the Premier League.

"To get 400 Premier League games under my belt as a manager, along with the staff I've got, is valuable to the team we're involved with," he said.

"We've been doing it for a long time now and have a lot of experience. There's not too much I haven't seen or experienced but you can never stop learning.  

"British managers are dying out, I have to say, but that's a lot to do with the foreign ownership as it's a world league now not just a British league. 

"A lot of managers and agents of the managers will try to get to the Premier League and that's what we have to contend with."

Steve Buckley: Could be a lot worse, looking forward to Leicester's trip to Sevilla, will be tough but in with a chance.

Oliver Livingston: I think Man City-Monaco will be great game because Monaco have a good defence and City have a good attack.

Jude: As a Leicester fan very happy with Sevilla, yeah it would be great to face one of the 'big dogs' but I want quarter-finals! 

There are five men in with a chance of being named the BBC's African Footballer of the Year 2016 - including last year's winner Yaya Toure.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Ayew, Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane are also in the running.

The winner will be revealed in a live broadcast on BBC Focus on Africa TV, radio and online from 17:45 GMT.

Crewe director of football Dario Gradi has issued a statement after being suspended by the Football Association.

An FA investigation will look into claims Gradi, 75, "smoothed over" a complaint of sexual assault against a Chelsea scout in the 1970s.  

"Having been notified by the Football Association on 25 November, I acknowledged my current interim suspension from football," he said.

"I would like to reiterate that I will do everything within my power to assist all investigatory authorities.

"As I have previously stated, aside from denying any wrongdoing it would be inappropriate and unfair on all parties to comment through the media at this time in connection with any allegations.

"I would also like to thank all those people, who have come out in support of me. It is very much appreciated."

Southampton striker Charlie Austin will need surgery on a dislocated shoulder he suffered last week, but manager Claude Puel says that means an opportunity for other players to step up.

"I'm disappointed to lose Charlie Austin to injury, but it gives an opportunity to other players to show their qualities," he said.

"I was pleased with Jordy Clasie's performance yesterday. I think it was his best performance of the season."

Howe says defender Nathan Ake, who is on loan from Chelsea, has a "big future". 

"Nathan Ake had anther good game," he said. "One of his strengths is his versatility and he's destined for a big future in the game."  

The Bournemouth boss also touched on the club's plans to build a new stadium.

"The stadium is a key factor moving forward," he added. "If and when we move, it'll be an emotional time, but we have to see the bigger picture."

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was talking to the press earlier, his side lost 3-2 at Burnley on Sunday and host Leicester on Tuesday.  

"I wasn't disappointed with the effort at Burnley. We need to ensure we're a little more solid at the back," he said.

"Conceding goals hasn't been a big issue, but we've obviously let a few in during the recent games. We're always looking at ourselves.

"Every point in this league is important. Things are so tight, so consistency in our results is what we're looking for right now."
