Two ex-Latics bosses on Wigan shortlistpublished at 10:11 British Summer Time 8 May 2017

    Football

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Now the season is over, attention at relegated Wigan is turning to who they will get to try and guide them out of League One.

Oxford boss Michael Appleton and Luton's Nathan Jones are two of the names on the Latics shortlist after making positive impressions at their current clubs and two other names on there are quite interesting.

Gary Caldwell and Uwe Rosler are thought to be under consideration, even though both have been sacked by Wigan within the past 30 months.

Caldwell led the Latics out of League One last season but was dismissed in October with his team next to bottom of the table - where they ended the campaign yesterday.

Rosler was in charge for 11 months and took Wigan to an FA Cup semi-final and the Championship play-offs in 2014, only to be sacked in the November after a poor start to the season.

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante wins the Football Writers' Association, external Player of the Year award.

It adds to the 26-year-old France international's Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award announced last month. Add those to a Premier League title - and probably another - and that's a useful sideboard to show to the neighbours.

Totti talk infuriates Spallettipublished at 09:45

    Football

Some forthright views from AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti, who is fed up with discussing the club's legendary 40-year-old striker Francesco Totti.

"If I could go back in time, I would never have come to coach Roma," said Spalletti when asked why he did not bring on Totti during Sunday's 4-1 league win at AC Milan.

"When I bring him on for the last five minutes you say I'm making a fool of him and I lack respect. Next time, we'll form a co-operative. We'll have a collective vote and the ones who get the most votes will play."

    This would be some achievement.

The front page of Spanish sports newspaper Marca highlights Real Madrid, and says the club will equal a European record if they score against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

If Real score it will be the 61st successive game they have scored in. The last time they failed to find the back of the net came on 26 April, 2016, in a 0-0 draw away at Manchester City in last season's Champions League semi-final.

    Bayern's record was set between 16 March, 2013 and 5 April, 2014.

More from Harry Redknapp's interview with BBC WM and the 70-year-old Birmingham boss says: "I'm interested in staying, there is a lot of work to be done and it is certainly a tough decision.

"I've been really impressed with the club and the people, there has been great support. I met the owners last night for the first time and had a really interesting meeting.

"They are very good people and want to take the club forward, they are not going to throw crazy money to achieve that but they will invest, so it's a case of wait and see really.

"I'll have another couple of meetings with them and see how we go."

Players were emerging from smoke down steps to the first tee, a foam figure six was dancing (that's someone's child) and Denmark won the European Tour's inaugural Golf Sixes event in St Albans.

There were plenty of innovations, each of the six holes had a theme, including a long-drive contest, nearest to the pin and a 40-second shot clock to speed up play.

BBC Golf correspondent Iain Carter believes golf has "taken a significant step towards finding a marketable short form of the game." What do you think? Let us know at #bbcsportsday

"There isn't another stadium where it should take place. I would fight Joshua in October but I believe Klitschko will take the rematch.
