Jonathan Lansana: What a great strong race from Laura Muir, a risky execution but brought it home for the Gold. Nice Bronze for Laura Weightman as well.

David Jones: Brilliant, brilliant runs from @lauramuiruns, external and @LauraWeightman, external. Two medals in an outstanding, true run race. One of the best moments of an excellent championship.

    Laura Muir

Laura Weightman felt the heat as she tried to keep pace with Laura Muir and was passed by Sofia Ennaoui as she tied up in the final 50m.

She battled hard though to keep Ireland's Ciara Mageean at bay to earn bronze.

    A British one-three.

Laura Muir wants more spice in this dish.

With 900m to go, she hits the front and strides out.

Has she decided to forget canny tactics and make this a time trial to weed out the weak one-by-one?

The opposition has one significant absentee.

The Netherlands' Sifan Hassan is the fastest woman in Europe this year and was well ahead of Muir in running the third fastest female mile of all time at the Anniversary Games last month.

Hassan has opted instead to focus on the 5000m where she won world bronze last summer.

So Muir is the only woman in the field to have gone sub-four minutes in their career.

And it is pretty routine territory for the Scot since she broke that barrier back in 2015. She has done so in three of her five appearances over the distance this season.

“I would be disappointed if I don’t get the gold," said Muir. "That’s the level I’m at. It’s something I should achieve.”

Laura Weightman - Muir's team-mate and the next fastest in Europe behind the Scot - is also in the field.

European Indoor Athletics: 'Spoil sport' official almost ruins Laura Muir's moment

Last year, at the European indoors, the most persistent foe that Laura Muir faced was the official determined to stop her running a victory lap after her 1500m.

The jobsworth got shown a clean pair of heels as well after negotiations broke down.

Muir could not add a world medal to last season's haul, but here, concentrating on just the one event, and without the likes of world and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon, she has a real shot at first major outdoor gold.

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

I have been watching British athletics with the BBC since 2002 and in all that time I have not seen anyone like Dina Asher-Smith.

There have been athletes who have shown as much if not more potential in their junior career. British sprinting at junior level has always been good.

But at this point in their career, someone who has continued to improve year after year, can compete against the best in the world and has the full package, physically, mentally and in terms of their attitude? No. I don't think I have seen anyone like her.

    Talking about changeover chaos....

The following little note appeared on 400m champion Matthew Hudson-Smith's Twitter feed.

He was part of the changeover that cost the 4x400m relay team a disqualification at Rio 2016. And some of the fall-out from that incident spilled over into London 2017 with Martyn Rooney suggesting Hudson-Smith "has to get his head right" during the heats.

A British team containing both men took silver behind Belgium last night.

You should be able to rest athletes, they're World Championship medallists and no one else was really going to challenge them - it should have been an easy qualification.
