Dillian Whyte is willing to "take the risk" of boxing during the coronavirus pandemic and is using his mother as inspiration to prepare for any bout.

The British heavyweight is due to face Russia's Alexander Povetkin in a behind-closed-doors bout on 4 July.

Whyte is training in Portugal and asked his mother, an NHS nurse, to join him, but she refused in order to work.

"The NHS and my mum are doing their bit so I need to do mine and put on an event for peoples' morale," said Whyte.

The 32-year-old told BBC Sport: "One of my biggest fears is showing weakness for my mother to see. She has shown incredible strength. She is putting her life at risk for people she doesn't know. How can I top that? This is nothing compared to what she has to do."

"Without them, it won’t be the same. I feel for the players because I know what’s it like to win, lose or get injured.

"This is new to me. I’m sure the players will find out more about themselves during this crisis. It will be difficult to focus - how can you prepare yourself when people are dying?"

    Rowing

British rower and 2016 Olympic silver medallist Polly Swann has been working three days a week as a junior doctor in Scotland.

"It's definitely given me some perspective, looking after sick people and caring for them makes you think sport isn't the be all and end all," Swann said.

"It's a privilege and luxury to do rowing but it makes me think it's not as high pressure and all-encompassing as I think.

"Maybe I'll go back in the summer and feel rested and ready to go and excited and not feel the intense pressure of the Olympics."

The Tokyo Olympics have been postponed until 2021 because of the outbreak.

"We have said from the start we want our players to be open. It is very important they are recognised as human beings," boss Potter said.

"Glenn Murray is entitled to speak his mind. I have had a conversation with him. We need to take some time to reflect on what was said and hear back from Premier League.

"Once we have all info we can discuss with players and directors. That is important. Liability stops with us."

Potter added that the Premier League have asked Brighton to vote on a medical protocol on Monday.

"It's very difficult to call one day to the next. The general will from all the clubs is to play out the season as close to the format as possible. Whatever date that is remains to be seen.

"I would like to think we get to a good outcome everyone is happy with. We are sanitising the environment. The players are not coming in for any length of time.

"It will be as safe as it is made to be. The challenge will be when contact, larger groups and different teams. We need to see where we are on Monday and then Tuesday."

A new televised summer team horse racing competition planned to start in July has been postponed until next year.

The Racing League aims to trial new rules where a jockey can carry a whip but only use it for safety and correction purposes, and not for encouragement as is commonplace in most races.

Organisers have told BBC Sport that it hopes to launch the concept with six flat race meetings on consecutive Thursday evenings in July and August 2021.

The event had originally been scheduled to start in 2019 before being put back to this year.

"Every player has been extremely committed in terms of their individual work and now we wait for clearance to commence working in small groups again, which I will fully support.”

This week it's Mike Tyson v Michael Spinks.

Either listen, or better still find the fight on You Tube. Costello and Bunce will then tell you when to start watching it and you can get walked through what your seeing by them. Their descriptions and the story behind the fight - including Donald Trump's involvement - will make you smile.
