  2. ICC approve rule changespublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

Other changes made to accommodate Covid-19 include players no longer being allowed to use saliva to shine a ball and the temporary removal of a need for neutral umpires.

As a result of the latter change, teams will be given an additional DRS review per innings, upping allocations to three.

If players are found to have used saliva, umpires will "manage the situation with some leniency" with further incidents leading to warnings, and two warnings equating to a five-run penalty.

  3. Test teams to allow coronavirus substitutespublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

Test teams are to be allowed to substitute players displaying coronavirus symptoms.

The International Cricket Council has announced that teams will be able to replace anyone suffering with a substitute, approved by the match referee.

England and West Indies are due to kick-off Test cricket's return on 8 July, with a series played at bio-secure venues.

The tournament was scheduled to take place from 6 August at the Evian Resort Golf Club in France but organisers admitted defeat after being unable to ensure safety protocols could be carried out for players arriving from around the world.

  5. 'Major lift' for NZ rugby...published at 13:50 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

New Zealand's Super Rugby teams are welcoming the prospect of a "massive lift" from crowds flocking to their stadiums this weekend for a long-awaited taste of the nation's favourite sport.

New Zealanders on Tuesday celebrated their first day without coronavirus restrictions in three months, even as much of the rest of the world grappled with the pandemic.

Auckland Blues boss Andrew Hore said more than 20,000 tickets had been sold for Sunday's "Super Rugby Aotearoa" match against the Wellington Hurricanes.

Hore said: "We’re thinking in excess of 35,000 (will turn up) which will be an amazing result and will make for a fantastic atmosphere and a massive lift for the players of both sides."

  6. What would happen now?published at 13:33 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

Wycombe, Oxford, Portsmouth and Fleetwood would contest the play-offs for the final Championship place.

  7. EFL clubs set for votepublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

League One and League Two clubs will vote later on Tuesday on whether or not to end their seasons after the new regulations were approved.

In order for a campaign to be curtailed, 51% of sides in any given division need to agree to it - which could pave the way for the League One season to be cancelled after teams had previously been split over a resolution.

Talks stalled after at least six clubs in the third tier, including Sunderland, Portsmouth and Ipswich Town, said they wanted to continue the seaason.

    Breaking

EFL clubs have voted to retain promotion, relegation and the play-offs and to use an unweighted points-per-game system to decide the final table if the season is curtailed.

The model was the one set out by the EFL's board, and the league said it was "overwhelmingly agreed" to adopt it into the competition's regulations at a meeting on Tuesday.

  9. Klopp's Lallana tributepublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to Adam Lallana in light of the 32-year-old agreeing to stay with the club until the season is concluded.

“I know how highly sought after Adam is in this moment by other clubs who want him for next season, so for him this is a commitment to us and we are very appreciative to him for it," Klopp said.

“This is absolutely how it should be, too, because I am so pleased he will be with us to finish the job this season and have the farewell he deserves so much.

“It is not possible for me to find words in the English language to properly explain the importance of Adam Lallana during my period of being manager of this club.

“But, to be honest, now is not the time for these words. Because of this news – that he stays until we finish this campaign – I can say all the things I want and need to when our season is concluding next month.

“What I can say – and want to say – now is even the way he has handled this extension tells you all you need to know about the person and his character. A top-class professional and an even better person.

“Adam always puts the club first – always! In the conversations we have had, he has been the first to express that my priority as a manager needs to be the players who are at this club for longer than just the rest of this season.

“He wants to be here to finish the job and do it properly, but it says everything about him that his biggest concern was blocking the progress and opportunity of a player who is under contract for next season also.

“But his role is too important to lose him before this season is done. So, it’s fantastic we can delay our messages of gratitude and good luck until the end of July now.”

  11. 'Short on time, high on stress'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

Jose Bordalas is manager of Getafe and has penned a column for BBC Sport as his side get ready to resume the season from fifth place in La Liga.

Training in very small groups was very strange at the beginning. But gradually we have been getting to grips with it and at the beginning of last week we all trained together, albeit with strict controls.

We have a multitude of things to sort out that seem insignificant, but are actually very important.

We have been left short of time and this causes us a lot of stress. That said, we are keen to return even though at first it will all feel a bit strange for everyone, because without a crowd the atmosphere will be lost. Our game relies very much on the support of our fans and the pattern of the game can change with fans' help.

The Wales Rally GB has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The race was set to run from 29 October to 1 November as the penultimate round in the 2020 World Rally Championship calendar.

It typically attracts about 100,000 spectators to the forests of mid and north Wales.

It is the first time that the annual Rally GB event has been cancelled in more than 50 years.

  13. Serie A moves transfer windowpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

The Italian Football Federation has said the summer transfer window will open on 1 September, two months later than scheduled, and close on 5 October.

Football in Italy has been suspended since March due to the coronavirus pandemic and the season is set to spill over into August.

England's Football Association is discussing proposals to move its transfer window to August from June.

Serie A, which was suspended on 9 March, is due to resume on June 20 and finish on 2 August. If a new suspension makes completing the season impossible an algorithm would be used to calculate final standings.

  14. Better in 2021?published at 11:39 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

    Gareth SouthgateImage source, PA Media

England manager Gareth Southgate expects his side to be in a better position in a year's time than they would have been for Euro 2020.

The summer tournament was due to begin on Tuesday but has been put back to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"At one point we were possibly looking at being without Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane, or at the very best both of those not having a lot of football," Southgate said on Sky Sports' Football Show.

"We have got certain positions where we are strong and certain positions where we don't have that strength in depth.

"Maybe some of those things will be better in a year's time, but other teams will be in the same. I'm looking at the German league and people like (Kai) Havertz playing and their young players are going to develop as well."

  15. Lallana in Reds talkspublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

    BBC Sport

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is in talks about extending his deal with the club until the end of the season.

The Reds were set to let the 32-year-old leave on a free transfer when his contract ran out on 30 June but he is now expected to stay until the end of the 2019/20 campaign, which has been extended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Liverpool are 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League and are on the verge of claiming their first league title in 30 years.

Their first match back after the top-flight restart is at Everton on 21 June, with their last game scheduled to be an away game at Newcastle United on 26 July.

Lallana has played 15 league games for the Anfield club during the current campaign, scoring once.

He moved to Liverpool for £25m in 2014 and was signed by then-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who has been linked with signing Lallana again for Leicester City.

  17. A big day for League One...published at 10:52 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

A final decision about whether there will be any more matches played in League One's regular season is likely to be made on Tuesday.

It is almost three months since elite football in England was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Premier League and Championship teams are preparing for a mid-June restart, non-league sides have already had their campaigns curtailed, while ending League Two at its current point should be a formality as fourth-tier clubs indicated their wish to do so last month.

Reaching a consensus in League One, however, has proved to be much less straightforward.

All the detail on what clubs want from Tuesday's meeting is available here.

  18. Stevenage and Macclesfield concernpublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Stevenage owner Phil Wallace has proposed two clubs should be promoted from the National League but none relegated, which would increase EFL membership to 73 clubs.

It is understood the idea does not have enough support from Championship clubs, who fear scrapping relegation from League Two would open the door for the Premier League to do the same thing.

However, a League Two source has told the BBC that this stance misses the point of the proposal.

For while it is anticipated League One and League Two could start the 2020-21 season behind closed doors - as clubs can use the removal of restrictions on televising games that start at 15:00 on a Saturday to generate funds through live streaming - no such facility exists for National League clubs.

As yet, it is not known when their season is likely to start, which potentially leaves Stevenage or Macclesfield on the brink of not only dropping out of the EFL but with no idea when they will be able to play in front of supporters again.

  19. EFL nears key decisionspublished at 10:22 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

English Football League clubs are expected to leave Stevenage and Macclesfield Town sweating on their EFL status by blocking the request of League Two clubs to stop relegation into the National League this season when they meet on Tuesday.

It is anticipated League One and League Two will be settled by a points-per-game format, with a number of alternative options and amendments unlikely to gain enough support to change the plan to end the entire campaign which was outlined by the EFL on 21 May.

That would confirm Coventry and Rotherham being promoted to the Championship, with sixth-placed Peterborough missing out on a League One play-off spot as Wycombe would jump five places from eighth to third because they have a game in hand on the clubs around them.

Tranmere, who have put forward their own proposal, would be relegated, along with Southend and Bolton.

In League Two, the top three would remain unaffected other than Swindon claiming the title ahead of Crewe, while those currently between fourth and seventh would contest the play-offs.
