    Diniz's compatriot Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbadv decided to take off his vest when well clear on the final lap of the 3,000m steeplechase last night and the organisers responded by stripping him of the gold medal as well.

    Mekhissi-Benadbbady has previous. As well as fighting compatriot Mehdi Baala immediately after a race in 2011, he pushed the event mascot - a 14-year-old girl inside a over-sized costume -, external after winning steeplechase gold at the last European Championships.

    It was perhaps unwise to give the organisers a reason to take his title off him.

    We, here in Britain, struggle to take race walking seriously. All a little too Monty Python,, external with the bottom wiggling and yellow cards for breaking into a jog.

    If anything is going to change your mind it might be France's Yohann Diniz who this morning broke 50km record with a time of 3:32:33, despite taking time on his final lap to pick up a pair of flags and then almost taking a wrong turn, and still had the energy left to celebrate like he had scored a last-minute winner.

    That time might get lost in translation. To put in imperial, he went though the marathon mark in less than three hours.

    There is a distinct Great Britain against the rest of Europe feeling about tonight's action.

    At the end of yesterday, the red, white and blue of Great Britain was ahead of the red, white and blue of France and Russia in the medal table.

    While the BBC table above values gold medals above everything, the official event ladder award different points values to different spots on the podium.

    It means that going into this evening's action, Team GB have slipped south of Russia and Germany despite having more golds in the bag. , external

    Before we start leafing through the thesaurus though, take note of the continental party-poopers looking to rain on Great Britain's parade of precious metals.

    Ukraine's Olha Zemlyak has been faster than Christine Ohuruogu in the two previous rounds of the 400m.

    Dafne Schippers, the flying Dutchwoman, is aiming to add 200m gold to her 100m crown at the expense of Jodie Williams.

    Christophe Lemaitre, smarting from losing his 100m crown to James Dasaolu, will not be in the mood to let Adam Gemili take 200m gold ahead of him.

    Super Saturday, Wonderful Wednesday, if all goes to plan we'll be prefixing another day of the week thanks to Team GB's efforts tonight.

    Everywhere you look in today's schedule there are medal possibilities, nay, medal probabilities for Great Britain.

    Old stagers like Christine Ohuruogu and Greg Rutherford are joined by young guns such as Adam Gemili, Jodie Williams, Laura Weightman and Matt Hudson-Smith in an all-out assault on the European Championships podium.

    What should we go for then? 'Fabulous'? 'Fantastic'? 'Fan-dabi-dozi'?
