France's Olympic champion and world record holder Renaud Lavillenie has started his quest to win the pole vault in beautiful late-evening sunshine.
Plenty of athletes and pundits have been giving their views on the Russian athletes being banned from the Olympics following claims the country ran a state-sponsored doping programme.

The 100m looks quite a daunting distance from this angle. It's a snug 24C this evening (according to a screen on the field) and the track has been relaid with the same Mondo track that will be used in Rio so quick times are likely. Usain Bolt, or course, is running a bit further this evening, opting for his favoured 200m.

The Jamaican returns to the Olympic Stadium in East London, the scene of his three gold medals at the London 2012 Games, in his final competitive race at the Anniversary Games before he attempts the "triple triple" of 100m, 200m and 4x100m Olympic golds in Rio next month.
Tonight's race will be his first 200m of the season - a season in which he's suffered a few hamstring issues.
But the world's fastest man insists he's fully fit and raring to go.
