  1. One wordpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 5 August 2017

But it is a one-man show for some of the fans en route to London Stadium this evening.

So many words have been spoken and written about Usain Bolt, but I'm not sure any are as appropriate as a young boy sporting a green and gold mohawk, growling "amaze-ing-ly".

    Tonight is history.

The final time that Usain Bolt runs in the individual 100m.

The raking stride, the gaping winning margins, the sheer, eye-watering speed.

You have got one night and less than 20 seconds of it remaining.

They were asking the wrong guy.

In second was a 21-year-old Jamaican, a former world junior and youth champion. A promising prospect, but not someone whose name would be recognised outside serious athletics circles.

"Usain Bolt beside me put on a terrific performance," added Gay.

“I was slightly frightened coming off the curve to see him winning – I am not used to that. He shocked me."

It wouldn't be the last time.

    Osaka 2007.

American Tyson Gay has just won the 200m to complete the fastest aggregate sprint double in Olympic and World Championship history.

The media ask him if the stat makes him the greatest 100m-200m runner of all time.

“I would not say that,” Gay said.

“In order to be the greatest 100-200 runner of all time you have to do it over and over.”
