More from KJT: "Moving to Montpellier, I was able to break down everything.

"I was able to step away from the home spotlight and I've had time to develop and grow.

"The last three years have been building up to this point and I'm so happy I'm in this position now with the Olympics next year.

"It's been an incredible year. There will definitely be celebrations when I get back to Liverpool."

KJT on BBC TV: "It's a combination of things - a slow build-up of relief throughout different championships. Berlin last year was a definite turning point for me. I didn't have good prep and I was able to compete to a certain level.

"This year I've had no injuries, I've built confidence in myself and I was listening to you guys in the studio and Michael said you felt like you had no business winning at a world champs (when he was injured).

"That's happened to me in the past. But here I wasn't thinking about a record or about a medal, I was just trying to beat myself because I knew I had that within me.

"I know what I need to focus on and what I need to do to get a good performance, and that's all I think about."

KJT on BBC TV: "I've had a tough couple of years. 2015, 2016, 2017... it's been a tough couple of years but I'm glad I'm on the other side of it now.

"The hurdles, I was completely stunned by. I had no idea I could run that fast because I've got such long strides. It's great to start the heptathlon off that way and making a gap between me and Thiam.

"It gave me huge confidence. I knew I was in the shape of my life. Coming into this I had the best prep ever. I just didn't know if I was able to actually do it because I've had problems doing that in the past. I was rolling after that!"
