  5. Day two round-uppublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Mike Henson
BBC Sport at Manchester Regional Arena

    • Performance of the day: Holly Bradshaw has been through the wringer during her rollercoaster career and had the early part of this season disrupted after she caught Covid, but a huge 4.90m marks her out as a threat to the very best in Tokyo.

    • Shock of the day: Andrew Pozzi was three hurdles away from Tokyo, but clattered the eighth flight while leading the 110m hurdles final and will now have to wait to see on Tuesday.

    • One to watch: Lawrence Okoye is back, and he is talking and throwing like a man who means business. He lobbed the discus out to 61.71m with his very first throw and didn't need to land another legal attempt. Too good for the rest of Britain, a problem for the rest of the world.
  6. 'It's not about qualifying'published at 18:47 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Men's discus

Lawrence Okoye reacts to securing a place in the discus in Tokyo: "We got the job done today.

"It wasn't a great performance but today is all about winning. I'll do a couple of more competitions and then go out and acclimatise.

"All I care about how I perform. Getting to Tokyo doesn't mean much to me, it's about what I do when I get there."

    Nuff said Lawrence. To Tokyo.

  7. 'So angry'published at 18:46 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

Not only did we have the Zharnel Hughes disqualification drama but we then got a timing malfunction in the women's 100m final. Many hard started writing their feature on Dina Asher-Smith clocking 10.71, only for the adjustment to take a quarter of a second off.

One former British sprinter is frustrated...

Zharnel Hughes, accompanied by an official, has just stalked back down the track with a face like thunder.

That hugely impressive semi-final performance where he ran 10.06 seconds, one hundredth outside the qualifying standard without pressing at all might save him though when the selectors meet.

Just tuning in? Hughes was disqualified from the men's 100m final for a false start. Brutal.

  9. Clearing up the speed...published at 18:40 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Women's 100m final

At one point there, seemingly everyone thought Dina Asher-Smith had broken the British record with a 10.71 clocking but it seems the clock got ahead of itself.

    It's all a bit confusing.

What we do know is she's heading to Tokyo and Asha Philip came home in second on 11.16 seconds. The qualifying time is 11.15. If my mathematics are correct, she's already nailed that.

Dina and Asha need a Japanese phrase book.

  10. Asher-Smith eases homepublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Women's 100m

Oh she's striding, she's swaggering and she fully deserves to do just that.

Dina Asher-Smith lays claim to the Manchester track with a 10.97 second blitz.

British champion, Tokyo athlete, medal hope (big time).

Spare a thought for Zharnel Hughes. Sent packing before he could compete. A false start has claimed big names before and will do so again.

  13. 'Relief'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Men's 100m final

CJ Ujah reacts to his 100m win - he's the British champion and heading to Tokyo 2020: "It's more relief than anything. I think I've had a tough two years so to put these races together I am happy.

"I'm really happy with the performance."

  14. Ujah wins...published at 18:30 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    Men's 100m

They get away this time (always love it when Crammy says that) and CJ Ujah has this all over by 50 metres.

He's driving his way up that straight like Freddie Flintoff in a reasonably priced Top Gear motor vehicle.

10.08 according to the clock but he already has the time.

  15. Hughes DQpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

    This is big.

European champion Zharnel Hughes is disqualified in lane three for going early. He was rapid in the semi-final. Four years of work in jeopardy because of a split second. He'll need the selectors and some kind of nod now.

And after the big build-up... a false start.

    Splendid.

The men are up first. Who will be British champion? CJ Ujah? Reece Prescod? Zharnel Hughes?

    A big title on offer.

    To the gun...
