Dina Asher-Smith's time - 10.91 - is her fastest this season and just eight hundredths off her personal best.

Will she go full bore to lay down a marker far beyond the Manchester Regional Arena in tonight's final.

    18:35 BST for that one...

Think they may need to go and put lane five out with a fire extinguisher after that semi-final.

    Dina Asher-Smith brought some flames.

Now, where's my rapid colleague Mike Henson? He's coming next...

To semi-final number three of the women's 100m. A few shake their legs out in the blocks.

    SET... BANG...

Dina Asher-Smith is operating in what looks like a different sport here and she pulls clear instantly. Majestic stuff... 10.91 seconds. A season's best.

If you finish in front of Dina in the final later today ladies then I believe you'll be British champion.

    Women's 400m hurdles

Meghan Beesley qualified for Tokyo earlier by finishing second in the women's 400m hurdles: "I got a full-time job in January and have literally been training on my own in the evenings. I was running a very average season.

"It was 57s all year so to come here and come second around this calibre of athlete, to do that alongside a 40 hour a week job, it doesn't seem real. I can't believe it.

"I'm 31 and made it finally. This was my last go.

"Everyone asks you about the Olympics. It's your dream. To be able to do that and go, it will be great."

    Women's 100m semi-finals

Women need to place in the top two of tonight's final and have clocked 11.1 seconds over the last couple of years.

Asha Philip has that time and booked her final place in semi-final number one.

In the second it's all about our dreaded mate... 'the false start'. Not one but two of them, with 17-year-old Alyson Bell sent back to the changing rooms for fouling in the second instance.

Take three... they are away... Daryll Neita dominates with just under 11.2 seconds and she already has the qualifier in the bank so it's all about tonight's final. Kristal Awuah also into the final with 11.36.

Low out of the blocks, compact through the mid-section, CJ Ujah clocks 10.16 and change to win the final semi-final. He's into the final, as is Andrew Robertson in 10.36.

The conditions today are giving the 100m guys and girls every chance to lay down a time.

Toasty warm in the sun and just a breath of headwind to run into. It came up as 1.0m/s in the last semi-final.

    Men's 100m semi-final

Dear me. Three one hundredths of a second split the first four in the second men's 100m semi final.

Jona Efoloko in 10.35, and Reece Prescod in 10.36 front the action.

Prescod has the Olympic qualifying time in the bank but he left that a bit late after a heavy start. Still, he's into the final. Sometimes an ugly run kicks you on...

There were 1300 socially distanced tickets on offer for the action today, but if you fancy a little view of the final corner, the 100m start and the pole vault pit, you can grab a spot on a slope opposite the Manchester Regional Arena.

It's not perfect, but sport spectating in 2021 isn't...

    Steve Cram
    BBC Sport athletics commentator

Normally we have four or five guys on the top of their game as the trials come around. I'm not sure we can say that this time around. It all looks a little more uncertain.

CJ Ujah has had a good season and looks to be the standout of the fit, healthy and regularly racing.

    Men's 100m semi-final

Zharnel Hughes - in black and white stripes - he's like a rapid Newcastle United striker if Newcastle United ever had rapid strikers.

It's a 10.06 with a brief glance over his right shoulder.

Beautifully central in his lane in the head-on camera, that was mint.

To the final Zharnel... to the final.
