    Britain's Zharnel Hughes is the fastest man in the world this year but another slow start in his semi-final meant he had to battle to make it through.

    American Noah Lyles, the 2019 200m world champion who thinks he can break Usain Bolt's 200m world record at these games, was the most impressive.

    He won his semi-final in 9.87 seconds.

    Defending champion Fred Kerley and Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs are out.

    Watch out for Christian Coleman, the champion from four years ago, and 22-year-old Jamaican Oblique Seville, who came in one of the less fancied names but has been impressive.
