    A jump of 7.14m - the best in the world this year - was more than enough for gold.

    Katarina Johnson-Thompson stalked Anna Hall for those two laps, digging deep and refusing to go away as the American gave everything for gold.

    She sits on the track, hand on head, trying to let it all sink in.

    A medal around her neck and a British flag in hand, this has been a remarkable triumph for the 30-year-old.

    A two-time world champion. Outstanding.

    I don't know if Kat believed she could actually overhaul Hall, I'm not sure she did. I don't think she did, it was more about two days that would reflect where I'm at and she did that. She's worked so hard on hers throws. She knows that in order to take this forward and be competitive, she would have to increase it in the gym to improve.

    They have given Johnson-Thompson her medal already and she's just taking a moment, sat on track looking at the gold in her fingertips.

    She ran a personal best there by the way - two minutes 5.63 seconds.

    Katarina Johnson-Thompson ruptured her Achilles before the last Olympics. She recovered but then injured her calf and had to limp over the line in Tokyo.

    The suggestion is she considered giving it all up and retiring.
