Alexander Povetkin beats David Price with a fifth-round knockout

One minute two seconds of round five is how long it took. Where next for David Price?

It was the sort of moment, the sort of brutal knockout that has a fighter questioning his future.

Sat ringside, you see the tiers of seats and feel noise rolling down them. But you forget the rows and rows behind you.

Tickets were around £40 if you sit right up in tier three, rising to four figures ringside.

Thankfully David Price is on to his feet. A doctor is checking him out but he is now walking around the ring.

    Breaking

It is all over. David Price is knocked out in round five. The towel comes in before the referee can get to 10. It was an absolutely brutal, crushing left hook from the Russian.

An overhand right had stunned Price, the Englishman's guard is completely dropped and it is a free punch for Povetkin. And what a punch, what a destruction. Sickening for Price. The dream is over.

    Round 4

A powerful uppercut from Price in the closing seconds of the fourth is the Englishman's best work of the round. Both men were buzzed in the third, and both look desperate to stay out of trouble in the fourth.

Who will recover from that sensational third round? On into round five.

    Round 4

Chances are this won't go the distance. Who is going to win, I've got no idea.

    Round 4

Both take a count in round three. Into round four, what's coming next?

  10. Count for Povetkinpublished at 21:55 British Summer Time 31 March 2018

What a recovery for Price. A crushing left hook from Price, sends Povetkin spinning, tumbling backwards right across the ring. Only the ropes keep him from hitting the canvas. But it is a count anyway. Povetkin manages to stay in it, but he looks shaky.

Round 3: Alexander Povetkin v David Price

Price is still in there, but cut as well. He knew he had made a defensive mistake and left himself open as soon as he hit the canvas, punching the floor in frustration.

  12. Price downpublished at 21:53 British Summer Time 31 March 2018

A brutal left hook sends David Price down. He gets up but there is still two minutes left of the round for him to survive.

Round 2: Alexander Povetkin v David Price

Povetkin gets to work on the Price body. No matter how tall you are, a brutal body shot can be your downfall.

The right coming in at the chin is one Price will desperately be trying to avoid. That flurry at the end of the first has sparked the Russian into action, and that may well be one round apiece.

Encouragement (well a little) for Price at the end of that round and those ringside break their relative silence to cheer.

This is the first bout where it's felt there's genuine focus on the ring now. Party over, serious business.

Remember, Povetkin was 1/20 with some bookmakers. A tall order for Price.

Round 1: Alexander Povetkin v David Price

Drama at the end of the first round. A huge left then a right hook from David Price seems to land, followed by a swinging left, although Povetkin desperately tried to duck under that one. That looked to have stung the Russian though. Signs of early encouragement for Price.

Round 1: Alexander Povetkin v David Price

At 6ft 8 in, David Price towers over the 6ft 2in Povetkin. Will that size difference prove the difference? Povetkin is the mandatory challenge for one of Joshua's belts and also Parker's title.

A Price win and he will be in line to fight either Joshua or Parker for a world title some time in the future. It is now or never for the likeable Liverpudlian. Time to unleash that potential.

Tony Bellew, ringside as a pundit, pointed to both his temples as David Price looked at him from his corner. He's asking for focus, concentration.

Povetkin is heavily booed, as he was at the weigh-in.

Former British champion, former Commonwealth champion. But despite these accolades, David Price has not had as big an impact on heavyweight boxing as he would have liked. A win over the ex-WBA world heavyweight champion will right a few wrongs though.

A huge chance for Price to prove an awful lot of people wrong tonight.
