    Crolla v Yordan

Anthony Crolla expects the challenge of Daud Yordan to bring out the best in him tonight.

Crolla, a former WBA champion, can put himself back in the world title picture with victory over the Indonesian in his home city of Manchester.

The WBA lightweight eliminator is the leading support act on the undercard.

Crolla said: "It's a fight I can't wait for and it's a fight that puts the fear into me because I know how good a fighter Daud Yordan is.

"That gives you that extra bit of an edge in training. Over the last year people have thought I'm on the slide but this is the kind of opponent that brings the best out in me.

"I genuinely believe the best of me is still to come, and I will need my best."

  2. The Hitmanpublished at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2018

This night is bringing in some seriously big boxing names - Thomas 'The Hitman' Hearns among them.

Hearns was the first man to win world titles at five weight divisions, sharing classic fights with the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler.

A real legend of the ring.

  4. 'It was all to impress my dad'published at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2018

From those early years, everything I have done or become was to try to impress my dad.

I was going to work on nightclub doors with him at 16 purely to impress him, to show him I could be like him. I was a big boy but had the face of a fat child.

I remember being asked to guard a DJ box at a club and Paul Ince, the former Liverpool player, and his mates were dancing around by me so I had to keep them in check.

This photo is fitting as in every moment I've had in competition since the age of 15, dad has been by my side, my greatest supporter. I guess it's rare but even though I come from a broken home, I still believe I have the most amazing father.

If I wasn't training or working I'd go with him to his office and watch him work. I am so proud of him for how hard he grafted having come from very little.

I am so thankful to be able to say all my dad does now is tell people about me. It wasn't easy, he always pushed and believed I could do more, more, more. That can be hard to follow but thankfully I have used his faith and proven him right.

Tony Bellew told me he’d need to trim around 34lbs for this fight after returning from his honeymoon.

How do you do that in say 12 weeks? He embarked on a low calorie diet for a week, shedding around 10lbs.

That left him with 2lbs a week to drop, a figure he’s always been comfortable with. No treats, no bread, no fizzy drinks. Cinema trips (he goes twice a week and can’t get enough film for his liking) see him take a protein shake and protein bar along. No cola bottles for Bellew!

As for training, he speaks of a couple of sessions a week which break him. One is on the treadmill where he runs at 20kph for 30 seconds and rests for 30. That’ll be repeated up to 36 times.

The other is known as ‘punch stats’. It involves holding hand weights and throwing as many shots as possible in 3 minutes. He claims to have hit over 500 and says the session - a staple of trainer Dave Coldwell - is horrific!

Signed gloves, Tony Bellew knitwear and, most impressively, some proper Bellew boxing shorts on offer at the memorabilia store.

If I wake up on Christmas morning and Santa has left me some boxing shorts I’m one very happy camper. They’d look cracking on me when I’m launching into battle doing the weekly food shop.

    Burns stops Cardle

"I don't feel any different to I did when I first laced up the gloves," says 35-year-old Ricky Burns on Sky Sports after knocking out Scott Cardle.

"I'm always waiting for that phone call, so hopefully there's some big fights out there for me still.

"I will fight anyone at all, it doesn't bother me."

Scott Cardle is down in round three!

A great shot from Ricky Burns, calling "timber" on his fellow Scot... and sending Cardle crashing to the canvas like a lumber-jacked tree.

Cardle's up and OK. But that was a hammer from Burns. It's his quickest win since 2011.

    Tony Bellew
    Former WBC cruiserweight champion

    BellewImage source, .

The little fatty on the left - me - had eyes on playing for Everton Football Club rather than fighting in the ring.

I knew about boxing as my dad could fight. He had a successful security firm in Liverpool and I'd see him come back from a jog before shadow boxing in the back yard. I'd watch and replicate what he was doing, as kids do. It's funny how things turn out.

This, at about nine or 10, was when I'd say my life was forming. My dad left, my oldest brother was about to move out and so the family was evolving.

Every spare second away from school was spent at youth clubs with mates. When my family changed, friends became my family and I had a group of 8-10 mates I still speak to now.

Back then, between getting clips around the ear for pestering my older brothers, I was chasing my dreams. Football dreams that is.

The lights are out but glowing red is Dereck Chisora’s cap. It’s simply emblazoned with ‘war’.

He’s of course a huge pal of Tony Bellew’s.

Interestingly, Dillian Whyte, who Del Boy fights on 22 December, is just a few feet away. They’ve not acknowledged one another!

Oh and by the way, Chisora has an aftershave on which is a festival for your nostrils. Beautiful.

And as I write this, Carl Froch - one of the toughest fighters in decades - is having his nose powdered by a make up artist.

Amir Khan is roundly booed too.

This completes our run down of things you see, hear and smell by the ring!

Josh Kelly became a dad for the first time in the last week. Seems he’s still been getting some kip as he just walked through Walter Castillo in a round.

Impressive stuff, he looks like he’s going to the top. There are big things to come as promoter Eddie Hearn has just mentioned a world title shot for the super-welterweight in 2019.

Cheshire's Sam Hyde suffered a nasty eye injury in the opening fight, and was pulled out of his contest with Richard Riakporhe in the eighth round.

Meanwhile, Dave Allen admitted he was under-prepared for his heavyweight bout with Ariel Esteban Bracamonte, despite beating the Argentine, and said he "never deserves to see pay-per-view" again.

Josh Kelly then quickly saw off Walter Fabian Castillo with a first-round stoppage. Eddie Hearn says Kelly will now face David Avanesyan on 8 December in Sheffield.
