We have seen one of the most sensational upsets in the history of heavyweight boxing. All the talk of Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury has been silenced.

Andy Ruiz has just thrown a grenade into the division. They will be laughing no more and Ruiz becomes Mexico's first heavyweight world champion.

Anthony Joshua's hopes of becoming the undisputed world champion are in tatters.

Andy Ruiz, written off by pretty much everyone, has shocked, stunned, amazed the world.

One of the biggest shocks in world boxing. Ever.

    Breaking

Unbelievable. Anthony Joshua has been stopped by Andy Ruiz.

Anthony Joshua loses his world titles!

Andy Ruiz wins! Andy Ruiz wins! Andy Ruiz wins!

  5. Joshua down for fourth timepublished at 04:11 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

Joshua gets up, but he is not responding to referee Mike Griffin's words. Joshua walks off back to his corner, the gumshield is out and Griffin stops it!

  6. Joshua down for third timepublished at 04:11 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

Mandatory eight, we continue. The American dream is turning into a nightmare.

  8. 'AJ looks unsteady'published at 04:11 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

    Round 6

    David Haye
Former world heavyweight champion on BBC Radio 5 live

The jabs to the body by Andy Ruiz Jr are having success. Although AJ's body looks rock solid, I have never seen anyone attack it, and he is looking unsteady in the ring.

    Round six

Joshua not engaging. The sharpness we talked about looks to have vanished from the champion. Has the volume of punches that Ruiz has landed with taken it all out of Joshua? It looked like Joshua's energy had just disappeared.

This could be a pivotal attack from Ruiz Jr.

Left swinging hook from Ruiz, and another jab.

  12. Postpublished at 04:08 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

    Round six

Ruiz leaps forward with a right, but Joshua is still alert enough to dance out of the way. Surely Ruiz has to finish this soon if he is going to at all. Joshua able to walk around the ring and bide his time waiting to attack.

  13. 'Ruiz has not hit him since the third'published at 04:07 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

    Round 6

    Steve Bunce
BBC Radio 5 Live boxing pundit at Madison Square Garden

That was an AJ round. I have seen him box cautiously before and he is boxing very cleverly.

Andy Ruiz Jr has not hit him clean since he dropped him in the third and he will get a lot more tired, but he can still take Joshua out.

    Round 5

A great left from Joshua and it crushes the Ruiz head. Some would not take that, Ruiz can, but he might not be able to take too much of that.

That is a vital three minutes from Joshua. A head-clearing, few minutes and that punch will have scrambled Ruiz a bit.

How much gas is in the Ruiz tank. His appearance suggests maybe not too much for the second half of the fight? But who knows?

  15. Postpublished at 04:04 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

If this goes into the later rounds, you would expect Joshua to have the physical and athletic advantage, but how much have those two knockdowns taken out of him.

  16. 'I've never seen this by Joshua'published at 04:04 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

    Round 5

    David Haye
Former world heavyweight champion on BBC Radio 5 live

I have never seen this by Anthony Joshua. When Wladimir Klitschko had AJ on the floor, he did not jump on him and the youth in his legs recovered.

I just hope Andy Ruiz Jr does not regret jumping on him in the third.

  17. Postpublished at 04:03 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

    Into the fifth.

    Round 5

No-one has done this to Anthony Joshua, no-one has had him in so much trouble. Not even Wladimir Klitschko. Andy Ruiz is on the verge of a life-changing, career-changing moment. He said he wanted to prove the critics wrong that teased him because of his physique.

He could be one shot from becoming the world champion.

  20. 'They won't be laughing anymore'published at 04:01 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

    Round 4

    Mike Costello
BBC Sport boxing correspondent at Madison Square Garden

Who could have predicted such drama here? There were laughs when people saw Ruiz's 'victorious' tattoo. They won't be laughing anymore.
