    American Idol.

Where’s Simon Cowell and the gang? That’s the right one right? I have no idea.

Anthony Joshua is in glossy form on a programme which costs about £15 ish.

Interestingly, Andy Ruiz Jr is quoted inside comparing himself to Tyson Fury for being overweight and plotting to take down the haters.

Anyway, this is going in my bag. Now I just need an ‘I love NY’ hoodie and a Statue of Liberty paperweight and I’m heading home.

Tom: Callum Smith is gonna be the next big thing!

Badreddine Ayad: Callum Smith was sensational but he deserved a better opponent than that. He is too good for mediocre opponents.

  4. 'Smith waited for the clean shot'published at 03:06 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

    David Haye
Former world heavyweight champion on BBC Radio 5 live

Callum Smith had him hurt and he could have jumped on him, but he waited for the clean shot and he did not waste any energy.

He picked the best shots and that is how you expect the best super middleweight on the planet to perform.

    Ali and FrazierImage source, .

In this confused heavyweight landscape, what would we give for another ‘Fight of the Century’.

That’s how Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier’s bout was billed here in March of 1971 and the image above hangs in the corridor of Madison Square Garden to this day.

Legend has it that Ali and Frazier couldn’t leave the arena after the weigh in. Their hotel was literally across the street but the crowds of people waiting to see them were just too thick.

Frazier got the nod that night, inflicting a first career defeat on Ali.

But Ali still resonates deeply on the streets today, with virtually every picture stall selling one of the below.

    The Greatest.

    Callum Smith wins

    Carl Frampton
Former world champion on BBC Radio 5 live

Canelo Alvarez is too small for Callum Smith and I don't think that fight will ever happen. Smith is a monster of a super middleweight.

'Clinical' was the word and it was the perfect performance.

Seeing those three knockdown punches from Callum Smith. Things of beauty. Unless you're cheering on N'Dam of course.

The good news is the challenger seems to be OK. The way he went down for the third put down was worrying, but he has been able to walk back to the dressing room unaided.

Callum Smith might be 29 but he is fresh and he has not been in hard fights.

Mike Costello, seen here on the left during a recording of the 5 live boxing podcast in Central Park, has probably visited Las Vegas more times than Tom Jones in order to commentate on huge fights.

But he explained to me this week that Madison Square Garden ultimately runs deep for a man who “lives boxing.”

“There will be a special tingle walking to ringside for this one,” he says. “I have commentated in some great arenas and stadiums but this is an arena many in my era grew up with. And there haven’t been that many heavyweight championship fights here. Many great fights, yes. But not many big heavyweight ones.”

Who's the better boxer - Joshua, Fury or Wilder?

Gav Smithson: Joshua all round better, fury awkward to fight, wilder one big punch but not technically the best. Time these fought each other and we'd see who is best!!

MrHaq: Boxing wise - Tyson Fury, without a doubt. Power wise - Wilder, without a doubt. Overall - Joshua, but he is still yet to prove himself against the other two

Teajay: AJ. He is the better fighter because he has amazing boxing skills & can punch really hard. His defence ain't bad either.

We all expected Callum Smith to win that fight but it is arguably the performance of his career.

It was all so clean and clinical.

Three sensational counter-knockdowns. Every single one of them were brilliant. Anything lazy against Callum Smith and he will exploit it.

  16. N'Dam down againpublished at 02:57 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

Another crushing shot, this time a short, counter right hand. But wow is it powerful. It is a heavy fall from N'Dam. The referee takes a look at him and waves it off. Callum Smith remains the champion.

  17. Postpublished at 02:56 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

A crushing, energy-sapping punch to the body. That's the sort of punch that ends a fight early.

    Round 3

Round three and N'Dam has spent most of this fight either backed up on the ropes or the canvas. It's back to the first of those places with a dominant Smith not letting up. He is looking too big, too powerful.

  19. 'Smith could have emptied the tank'published at 02:54 British Summer Time 2 June 2019

    Round 2

    Carl Frampton
Former world champion on BBC Radio 5 live

I like that Callum Smith did not rush his work too much there. He could have emptied the tank but he just took his time and it's a very solid start. Hassan N'Dam has his work cut out here.
