Lovely variety by Anthony Joshua in this round. It is much more composed and there is no wild swinging.

Lovely variety by Anthony Joshua in this round. It is much more composed and there is no wild swinging.
Joshua v Ruiz
A flash of gold as Andy Ruiz Jr goes after the challenger, flicking jabs through the Riyadh night sky towards the 30-year-old like a Quidditch snitch. Joshua just slows it down, keeping beyond the range of Ruiz and biding his time. Nice and patient.
Joshua v Ruiz
Anthony Joshua is patched up between rounds. Andy Ruiz Jr has the cut between his left eye smeared too. It's the champion who bounds out on to the front foot, looking to back AJ up but the lean Briton finds his distance once more.

It was a clash of heads which caused AJ's cut. The regular cut man is not part of Joshua's corner. I liked the speed of the jab.
I don't even want to see him try and exchange yet. He is moving beautifully, why is he getting too close?

Genma: It will go down to the latter stages but AJ will come out on top simply because he knows opportunities don't always come twice. He's gotta take this one.
Tony Greaves: Clash on the Dunes just does not cut it I'm afraid.
Grae Frog: AJ needs to keep that jab working and stop Ruiz from getting in close, stick and move AJ.
Joshua v Ruiz
Ruiz ducks another right, but can't evade an AJ flurry - he tip-toes backwards trying to escape.
But somewhere in that collision Joshua is cut, right above the eye too. Might've been from the head of Ruiz.

There is blood by the left eye of Anthony Joshua. Both men are cut in the same place.
Joshua v Ruiz
Joshua reopens the cut with another smart right, Ruiz is gunning for him but has left himself open there.
AJ keeps the champion at range, and winds in with a left to the upper body of the Mexican.

Patient from Anthony Joshua, despite cutting Andy Ruiz Jr with that sweet right hand above the eye.
Joshua tickles a left in the direction of the champion but Ruiz responds with a thunderous body shot.

That is the fear I'm speaking about. He boxed very intelligently, moving left and moving right. There was nothing in that round but then Joshua causes the cut above Ruiz's eye and I think he has nicked it. He has boxed to instruction.

Joshua v Ruiz
Joshua sneaks a jab between the gloves of Ruiz, keeping the Mexican-American at distance and then firing a ferocious right hand.
Blood is pouring from the left eye of Ruiz. The champion is cut.
Joshua v Ruiz
Joshua, looking lean, rocks one way and then the other as he rides a couple of Ruiz body shots - just stalking his prey, the challenger.
He dips in and then back pedals to avoid a lightning Ruiz jab, before swinging a left, then a right-left combo that's padded away by the champ.
Joshua v Ruiz
Anthony Joshua takes a long stride towards the champion and then backs off as Andy Ruiz Jr takes centre stage, the height difference already evident once again as Ruiz goes on the hunt.
Joshua v Ruiz
Ding, ding.
And away we go.

Joshua v Ruiz
"Let's get ready to rumbbblllle..." says Buffer.
Still think they should have dubbed this one the 'Rumble in Riyadh'.
But you know what that means...
Joshua v Ruiz
How're those nerves?
Andy Ruiz Jr loses his robe. AJ stands with a towel wrapped round his neck.
Joshua v Ruiz
And to honour Andy Ruiz Jr's Mexican heritage, there's a special rendition of the Mexican anthem inside the ropes too.
