There is a toughness about AJ. We didn't see it when the fight was announced in September but we saw it at the workout on Tuesday and at the weigh in on Friday.

There is something different and it's not just that he doesn't look as groomed as ever. I think we have seen something in AJ that we were desperate to see because I was nervous getting on the plane here.

I’ve got a stat for you.

James Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson in 1990. It was some shock.

Douglas gained 15lbs and lost to Evander Holyfield.

Andy Ruiz beat Anthony Joshua. Andy Ruiz gained 15lbs....

You see where I am going with this.

Six months have passed since Andy Ruiz Jr's rotund body shape was questioned before he shocked the world. On Friday he weighed in 15lbs heavier than last time at 20st 3lbs. He has not been heavier for a fight in more than 10 years.

Anthony Joshua's revelation earlier in fight week that he might drop from 17st 9lbs to under 17st was described as "nothing short of startling" by Mike Costello, who added: "It makes you think, what is in his mind?"

But Joshua confirmed his prediction by weighing in at 16st 13lb - his lowest mark in five years.

Even footballers have been getting in on the act.

Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo: "Good luck Joshua. I’m team AJ.”

Germany international Mario Gotze:“I think Anthony Joshua is going to win the rematch. He probably prepared himself very well to fight Ruiz again to seek revenge. It is definitely going to be a great and exciting fight, I can’t wait.”

Khabib of the UFC parish just walked in and the locals loved it. Huge cheers and he played right up to them. Usher ringside, Canelo ringside... all a bit surreal right now.

Our 5 Live team are taking you through things beautifully. I’ll be honest and say I’ve changed my mind on who wins a dozen times. I’m leaning to Joshua and I’ll stay there.

One moment this week made me think about a previous like for Ruiz, who I arrived in Riyadh backing. I spoke to his trainer and the vibe I got - and it was only a vibe - was that it’s been testing getting the champion into consistent training this time around.

  9. 'I just want to do a job'published at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

Earlier this week Anthony Joshua told BBC sports editor Dan Roan that he would "definitely be bothered" if the fight in Saudi Arabia was used as 'sportswashing' but says he is just there to "do a job".

Andy Ruiz Jr has warned us there’s no way he is giving these belts up. They didn’t seem to bother him midweek as he sat 10ft from them and seemed more interested in getting the wi-fi code in the room we were in.

Flanked by his dad Andres, his mum Felicitas and trainer Manny Robles he seemed pretty chilled as camera flashes went off time and again around him.

Mike Tyson once said the heavyweight title is like wearing a “crown of thorns”. Ruiz has made it look a pleasure.

    Early days though... early days...

  11. 'It might just destroy him'published at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

    Joshua v Ruiz

Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is in no doubt about how big Saturday night is for Anthony Joshua.

"He's humbled now. It will either make him a better individual, a better fighter, a better person, or it might just destroy him," said Tyson.

Six months after the Briton was stunned by Andy Ruiz Jr in New York, he gets his shot at redemption - his chance to join greats such as Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield on the list of heavyweights to reclaim world titles.

  13. 'Joshua never recovered from that shot'published at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

    Joshua v Ruiz

    Richie Woodhall
Former world champion at Diriyah Arena for BBC Radio 5 Live

I think, deep down, he knows how big this is. He is a very intelligent man and he takes people's opinions on board. He asked me for mine and I told him I didn't think he was fit enough in the first fight.

He was one punch away from defeat against Wladimir Klitschko but he was fit and strong and he came through that crisis.

In the Ruiz fight it looked like another routine victory, he caught him with a hook in the third and he let his guard down a little bit. Ruiz landed a left hook and Anthony Joshua never recovered from that shot.

Those fears some of us had about the atmosphere we would have here have been allayed.

Both, by the response we have already had for British fighter Dillian Whyte on the under card, and also for the size of the fight for AJ. It's close to 90% full at this stage.

    So who are you picking?

I can tell you Richie Woodhall - a former world super-middleweight champion no less - really fancies Joshua. Woodhall spends a lot of time in the Joshua training camp too. So that’s interesting.

In contrast - Hasim Rahman - who of course landed an upset of his own to beat Lennox Lewis and land the heavyweight title - has Ruiz picked. He believes in the ability and skill Ruiz has and has seen it up close by watching the champion soar.

So that’s 1-1 then. What are you saying? Hit us up on #bbcboxing.
