  7. 'We knew he could fight'published at 23:35 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2021

Eddie Hearn, speaking to Sky Sports: "This is why it's the best sport in the world. No-one gave Lara a chance but we knew he could fight. We didn't think he'd beat the number one featherweight but he did.

"I've haven't seen bravery in the ring like I saw from Warrington in a long, long time. Warrington was erratic. The ring-rust showed. He got caught and never recovered. How he got through the fourth round I won't know.

"He was running on empty and his bravery was incredible.

"For Warrington it is a crushing blow. Back to the drawing board.

"No excuses, he was beaten by a hungry Mexican who has changed his life."

  8. 'We believed we could do it'published at 23:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2021

Mauricio Lara, speaking to Sky Sports: "We worked really hard for it and it worked out how we planned. Our confidence was because we believed we could do it.

"We were working round by round. It worked how we planned. He is number one in the world and there is a reason he is number one so we took it round by round.

"The biggest thing for me outside the ring is my family. I am looking forward to celebrating with them and seeing them again."

I hope Lara does the sensible thing and makes plenty of money where he goes next. Josh will be back. He will go through a torrid few days, maybe even in a torrid few weeks, but he will come back more determined. One thing he will not do is give one excuse. It is what happens in boxing and it is what happens in big time boxing. Sure it was a shock but it was just boxing.

Lara beats Warrington in the ninth

    Steve Bunce
Boxing pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live

The kid Lara just looked relaxed. He looked like he was enjoying himself in there. What guts he showed. He was fighting purely and utterly on instinct. He was doing what he had to do but he had no idea why he was doing it. He was phenomenal.

He has gone to the home country of an unbeaten champion and has entered that ring fearless.

Josh Warrington is eventually able to get up and make his way over to his own corner. He then goes over to congratulate Mauricio Lara.

Not to be for Warrington, but what a fight.

Warrington fought from the first bell with a recklessness. He was smart once he was hurt, that's when he got smart.

It was a crazy, chaotic start, from the fourth, all bets are off.

From round four on, Warrington wasn't steady on his legs.

Fatigue played its part more than the shots.

  17. Warrington downpublished at 23:16 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2021

    Round nine

Warrington is down! All over and what an upset!

A big left from Lara finds its target and it is too much for Warrington as he hits the floor.

Massive shock as Warrington suffers the first defeat of his career.

    Round eight

Bit of a scrappy start to the round with both fighters beginning to get tired. A good combination gets through from Warrington before he takes a jab from Lara.

Warrington gets a good jab through in the final few seconds of the round that clearly hurts Lara but still he comes forward.

This is a real battle. Lara has never been beyond 10 rounds before, he's looking good for that tonight.
