    Round one

Josh Warrington lands some solid shots early doors, serving notice to Mauricio Lara of what he could be getting himself into.

A left hook from Lara gets through in response and that gives the Mexican confidence and the two exchange punches in the final few seconds of the round.

    Good contest. Even.

You can imagine the noise thousands of passionate Leeds United fans would be making now, such a shame to see this taking place in a quiet arena but hopefully not long before we are back to some level of crowds for fights again.

Warrington's attention to detail sets him to part. He did everything you shouldn't do against Frampton. You don't stand toe-to-toe with a puncher. He won a fantastic fight and there was only one winner. Against Lee Selby he boxed with a boxer. Here's a guy with attention to detail.

He's been inactive, he doesn't have the crowd but I can't see him slipping up.

Josh Warrington will pay tribute to Rob Burrow today by wearing the number the Leeds Rhinos legend made his own on his shorts.

Burrow has motor neurone disease (MND) and Warrington said: "It has become tradition I share the ring walk with a Leeds legend.

"There was only ever going to be one man for my next fight if restrictions would have allowed."

Mexican boxers tend to be tough.

If you're a Mexican boxer nicknamed 'El Bronco' then you must double rock hard.

At just 22, Lara will be fresh and he's been nice and busy to get sharp, with five fights since Warrington was last in the ring.

But he's never been in at this level before and with two defeats in 23 outings there's evidence he can be got at.

Make no mistake, he has it all to do but he wouldn't be the first Mexican to defy the odds in the ring that's for sure.

  14. Controversy on the cards...published at 22:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2021

    Barrett beats Martinez

Manchester's Zelfa Barrett extended his record to 25 wins and one defeat against Spain's former world champion Kiko Martinez with a controversial unanimous 118-111 118-111 116-113 win on the cards.

Eddie Hearn, Barrett's promoter, said: "That was a very, very close fight. I thought 118-11 is absolutely disgusting for Martinez. How are we going to bring foreign fighters to this country when they get zero credit for their performance.

"We have some fantastic officials but 118-111 doesn't do anyone any favours. Barrett won't get any credit, Martinez was relentless and if he lost it was by one or two rounds. Not one card but two was 118-111, these guys are putting their health and life on the line. After all that effort Martinez may as well have boxed on the back foot and had an easy night."

Mauricio Lara is on a 10-fight unbeaten stretching back to 2018.

That flow of results has seen him turn up with a defiant attitude despite being set to go up against a man priced at 1-25 with the bookmakers.

“Recently becoming a father to a daughter is an extra motivation for me," said Lara, 22.

"It’s always an extra motivation for me when I enter the ring, whether that is for training or fighting. I’ve prepared to come and win. I know that I am going to win. I’ve prepared really hard to go to war in the ring."
