    Marku v Jenkins

Florian Marku is always backed by a large following and tonight is no different.

His name is called out by the travelling support. Albanian flags and scarves are waving proudly in Newcastle.

  2. 'He is my enemy'published at 21:41 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    Marku v Jenkins

Florian Marku, AKA the 'Albanian King', is the co-main event tonight alongside Welshman Chris Jenkins.

It is a big test for the kick-boxer turned MMA turned boxer with Jenkins vastly more experienced than Marku in the pro ranks with 30 fights.

But as Marku explains, he's actually a bit of a complete fighter, having fought in kickboxing and MMA.

"I've been fighting my whole life. In kickboxing I had over a hundred fights - I won four world titles. I've lost only four times in all my life," Marku told BBC Sport.

"I fought every top name in kickboxing across Europe and the Albanians were following me. When I came here I was already a big name, just not in the UK.

"When I started boxing, everyone was surprised I had such a big following. I think my first two fights in York Hall [in London] I sold all the tickets by myself.

"They see me as a big name and they started calling me 'the Albanian King' and it's stuck."

    Marku v Jenkins

Next up on the card is Florian Marku's defence of his IBF international welterweight title against Chris Jenkins.

There was a bit of a shove in the weigh-in, so expect a bit of bad blood in this one...

  4. Head to headpublished at 21:38 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    Marshall v Hermans

Femke Hermans turned pro just a year before Savannah Marshall and like the defending champion, fought at super-middleweight.

The Belgian won a world title at that weight and the three losses on her record were all to world champions, including tonight's ringside spectator Claressa Shields.

Marshall has already admitted Hermans is her toughest test to date. Shields also warned Marshall that Hermans is "awkward and sturdy" and liable to throw some elbows or a headbutt too. Watch out Marshall!

  5. The story so far...published at 21:36 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    Marshall v Hermans

It's been a decent undercard so far this evening...

Manchester's Bradley Rea maintained his unbeaten record with a win over Lukasz Ndafoluma.

Rea floored his opponent before going on to claim victory on points.

Then Zak Chelli overcame a nasty cut on the head to produce a stunning knockout win against Jack Kilgannon.

A swinging right connected on the temple before the left finished the job.

Expect a noisy reception when Savannah Marshall walks to the ring shortly. There are plenty of fans who have made a short trip down the A19 to cheer on the Hartlepool fighter.

While putting on a statement is important, Marshall needs to get through today unscathed and make sure her hand is raised at the end of the night.

A mega-fight with undefeated American Claressa Shields is in touching distance. That undisputed middleweight clash is one of, if not the, biggest in women’s boxing. If Marshall wins, you could get the announcement in the post-fight interview.
