    Mayer v Baumgardner

Tom Grennan has just performed as we take a break before the two world-title fights that are topping tonight's historic event in London.

First up Mikaela Mayer, who holds the WBO, IBF and Ring magazine super-featherweight titles, is facing fellow American Alycia Baumgardner.

And now it's time for some Sweet Caroline, karaoke style at the O2.

  2. 'I think Claressa may get a little lackadaisical'published at 21:24 British Summer Time 15 October 2022

    Shields v Marshall

And here is Natasha Jonas' prediction: "It's a tough fight for both girls. Neither of them have fought someone of that calibre. I can see Claressa build up a big lead. She's explosive, fast, likes to be in the pocket and throws a lot of volume of punches.

"But Sav will eventually land. And I don't think Claressa has been hit by anyone like Sav. When Sav does land, people don't get back up.

"She's got one of the most devastating knockout reels in female boxing. I think Claressa may get a little lackadaisical and Sav will land."

  3. Shields v Marshall will redefine women's boxingpublished at 21:21 British Summer Time 15 October 2022

    Shields v Marshall

    Natasha Jonas
    WBO and WBC super-welterweight champion

An undisputed clash between two elite fighters, on a card featuring an all-female cast - it does not get much bigger, or better, than that.

When American Christie Martin fought on a Mike Tyson undercard in 1996, it was huge for women's boxing because nobody had ever had a platform like that before.

Then earlier this year, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano sold out New York's Madison Square Garden in a historic moment for the sport.

Now we have another game-changing event which will redefine women's boxing.

Saturday night will leave behind a legacy. It will set the tone for everything else which will follow in the years to come.

The whole card is the biggest thing to happen in British boxing for women. When you get a crest of wave like we have now, you have to ride it, and enjoy it.

You don't see it that often where fighters land four or six successive punches.

They aren't going to call it yet but they could, Lauren [Price] is well up there.

  14. 'This is fantasy boxing'published at 20:32 British Summer Time 15 October 2022

    Shields v Marshall

    Steve Bunce
Boxing expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

We've got two world-title fights here tonight that I believe stand along with Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano.

    This is fantasy boxing.

When Savannah Marshall got her pro licence in 2017 there were just seven other British women with a professional licence. Now there are nearly 50 and on this bill tonight we have 10 women boxing.

    That's not in 25 years or 10 years, that's in four-and-a-half years.

  18. 'There is no denying us. We are here to stay'published at 20:14 British Summer Time 15 October 2022

    Mayer v Baumgardner

American champion Mikaela Mayer insists there is "no denying" women boxing before her super-featherweight unification fight against Alycia Baumgardner.

With women's boxing booming after struggling for decades, Mayer says female fighters are "here to stay".

"For the longest time we didn't have that ability to compete at the highest level, but now that we do there's just no denying us," she said.

"Most of the world didn't ever believe women's boxing would get to this level and have this kind of exposure and hype - but I did.

"I really truly believed that somehow, someway this is what I would be doing with my career and this is the level I would get to."

  20. Mayer on first Shields-Marshall clash, unification fight & Spice Girlspublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 15 October 2022

    Mayer v Baumgardner

Mikaela Mayer, who is fighting on the undercard tonight, remembers the first meeting between Shields and Marshall in 2012.

"I remember Savannah boxing and moving and keeping that perfect space away from Claressa," she says. "Not letting her close that space and letting her hands ago. The fight got away from her in those three rounds."

Mayer, 32, and Alycia Baumgardner, 28, will meet in an all-American, super-featherweight unification clash.

Mayer, who holds the WBO, IBF and Ring magazine super-featherweight titles, has previously said she will be walking out to a Spice Girls song, after receiving a personal message from Mel C.
