Okolie is targeting the body from the outset and lands an early jab there. A warning shot at this stage.

  4. 'Okolie learning all the time'published at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2023

    Barry Jones
Former world champion on BBC Radio 5 live

Lawrence Okolie has been fit and ready to fight but he's been kept out of the ring by contractual problems.

It has been a real sprint of a career and he's got to where he is already in a very short space of time. He's still learning all the time.

He's had plenty of time in the gym but this real-time ring experience is worth its weight in gold.

Okolie has a certain swagger about him. Full of focus as SugarHill Steward whispers some last-minute instructions in his fighter's ear.

  7. 'Light looks calm'published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2023

    Barry Jones
Former world champion on BBC Radio 5 live

Light looks surprisingly calm and focused. He'll need that confidence in a fight where he's massively outgunned in stature, experience and certainly power.

Here comes Lawrence Okolie, much more pumping music accompanying him on his walk to the ring.

He too looks calm and confident. Two very confident fighters tonight.

  9. 'Okolie will be ready to go'published at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2023

    Josh Taylor
WBO light-welterweight champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

Lawrence Okolie will be feeling a little bit nervous at the moment after his lay-off but he'll be ready to go.

I don't really believe in ring rust. If you're in the gym doing your preparations correctly then you should be raring to go.

Well I'm adding it to my running playlist, Kal.

    Anyway, it's Lawrence Okolie time.

Erm, interesting choice of ring walk music by Light. To clarify, I had to google the lyrics to find out the artist and song name.

Not sure that would pump me up for a scrap, but each to their own.

Here comes the challenger, David Light. He's got a montage of him training mixed in with a shark swimming about and the classic jaws music as he declares on VT that he's coming for the belt.

He then walks out to some very pleasant country music which I'm told by our man ringside Kal Sajad is 'Your Man' by Josh Turner.

    He looks very, very confident.

  13. 'This won't go beyond five rounds'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2023

    Barry Jones
Former world champion on BBC Radio 5 live

After being out for so long, it's a fresh start for Okolie. A new trainer, a new beginning.

I think David Light is the perfect opponent. A guy who is small and comes with his hands low. He's brave but hittable. I think with that, and the power Okolie possesses, this fight won't go beyond five rounds.

Okolie will get that right hand into play very early and the finish will be very conclusive. Lawrence will move on to bigger and better things.

  14. 'Okolie can't take anything for granted'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2023

Former WBO cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson on Sky Sports: "Every defence of a world title is a banana skin.

"David Light is unbeaten. He was a good amateur but I don't think he's met anyone of Lawrence Okolie's calibre.

"I can see Okolie, as long as he stays on point, getting this done inside the distance but he can't take anything for granted."

  17. Light work?published at 22:04 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2023

BBC Sport at AO Arena, Manchester

We don’t know all that much about David Light. The 31-year-old from Auckland has worked his way into a mandatory position, but has never fought anyone even close to Okolie’s level.

Video footage of Light training for the fight was mocked by fans on social media, who said he looked stiff, lacked any head movement and his chin was far too exposed.

There have been a lot of references on social media to this being ‘light-work’ for Okolie, but Light’s trainer, Isaac Peach, says those pun-makers and team Okolie are overlooking the challenger.

  19. Could Okolie face 'AJ' one day?published at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2023

    Kal Sajad
BBC Sport at AO Arena, Manchester

Speaking to Okolie at Thursday’s news conference, he told me a move up to heavyweight could happen in the next two years. Only Evander Holyfield, David Haye and Oleksandr Usyk have won world titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight.

Okolie also did not rule out a fight with friend and former mentor Anthony Joshua one day, if the money is right.

  20. 'The Brits are chasing Okolie'published at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2023

Former super-middleweight champion George Groves on Sky Sports: "I think Lawrence Okolie will want to make a statement.

"There are some Brits chasing him. Chris Billam-Smith and Richard Riakporhe have got their eyes on him."
