How many more wars can Derek Chisora be involved in? He was dishing it out but also taking some clean hits in that first round. There are plenty of people in boxing who want the popular Chisora to call it a day.

  4. Predictions - 'late replacement could cause an issue'published at 22:13 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

Former lightweight world champion Anthony Crolla: "Massively frustrated it's not AJ-Whyte on Saturday night. It's hard to take any positives from it other than at least the show is still going on. Fair play to Helenius taking it on a week's notice. I think AJ establishes the jab and lands a big inside within three rounds."

Heavyweight Frazer Clarke: "The late replacement could cause an issue but Joshua is laser focused and ready to do a job on whoever is put in front of him. I predict it to be a bit cagey in the opening round perhaps but I see Joshua breaking him down in a sixth to eighth round stoppage. There will be a valiant effort from Helenius. He knows what an opportunity this is and he will try to make it awkward in the early going. I can't wait to be there in person and witness something devastating from Joshua."

Former light-middleweight world champion Hannah Rankin: "I'm going with a stoppage for AJ in the second half of the fight. Helenius has an awkward style and heavy hands but I think AJ will find a home for that right hand to get the knockout."

It's no secret that Anthony Joshua is rebuilding his reputation.

The Olympic gold medallist and two-time heavyweight champion lost back-to-back fights against Oleksandr Usyk over the space of 11 months between 2021 and 2022.

After going back to the drawing board and employing the services of trainer Derrick James, Joshua returned to the ring in April 2023 - beating Jermaine Franklin by unanimous decision.

Talk of a mega-fight with former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been rumbling along for a while and some questioned, with those talks taking place in the background, why he was prepared to face a dangerous Dillian Whyte.

How Joshua fares against Helenius could be key - the Finn suffered a first round knockout loss to Wilder in 2022.

Promoter Eddie Hearn says representatives from Saudi Arabia are in London this weekend, aiming to conclude negotiations Joshua v Wilder, which could potentially take place in January.

"It will be one of the biggest heavyweight fights of our generation. We can't afford to not win [against Helenius]," said Hearn.

The atmosphere had definitely dropped for the Filip Hrgovic v Demsey McKean fight but it's gone up a fair few notches now.

  10. Chisora up next in co-main eventpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

It's the co-main event up next with Derek Chisora facing American Gerald Washington.

Del Boy has lost four of his last five fights but he's taken on some big names, losing to WBO, WBA (Super) and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC champion Tyson Fury.

Washington has lost three of his last four but his one win during that streak came against one half of tonight's headline act, Robert Helenius.

  11. Edwards set for December unification bout against Rodriguezpublished at 21:57 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

IBF flyweight world champion Sunny Edwards spoke to DAZN to confirm he will have a unification bout against WBO flyweight world champion Jesse Bam Rodriguez: "We managed to bully Bam and his team in a corner and he couldn't run away from it.

"Bam is exciting, but I think I'm going to make him look silly. It's a top pound-for-pound fight. I believe me and Bam are at the top and this is as elite as it can get."

Campbell Hatton, son of former two-weight world champion Ricky, kicked proceedings off with a victory over Tom Ansell to extend his unbeaten record to 13.

Johnny Fisher stopped Harry Armstrong in round seven to claim the vacant Southern Area heavyweight title.

Filip Hrgovic took a gamble by putting his position as the mandatory IBF heavyweight challenger on the line against Demsey McKean.

It wasn't the most exciting contest but Hrgovic got the win in round 12 and he remains undefeated after 16 trips to the ring.

  13. Joshua needs a showstopping KOpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    Kal Sajad
BBC Sport at O2 Arena, London

It’s fair to say Anthony Joshua was underwhelming in the points win over Jermaine Franklin in April. But it’s also fair to say Jermaine Franklin was a much tougher test than Robert Helenius. The durable Franklin had never been stopped.

Joshua was understandably tentative after back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk. Beating Franklin, getting back to winning ways and not taking too many risks was the order of the day.

Tonight is a different story. The call for the ‘old AJ’ is getting a bit cliche, but Joshua does need to win by stoppage. A lacklustre points win will not do.

  14. 'Let's just rock and roll'published at 21:46 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

Anthony Joshua stands shirtless on the scalesImage source, Getty Images

Anthony Joshua discovered his bout with long-term rival Dillian Whyte was off a week ago, waking up to a message at 07:00.

It's not the first time Joshua has been in this position - learning that an opponent was no longer allowed to fight after failing a drugs test.

In 2019, Joshua was venturing to the USA for the first time with an opportunity to take on American Jarrell Miller at New York's Madison Square Garden.

But Miller tested positive for several banned substances and Mexican-American Andy Ruiz Jr stepped in at a month's notice.

Ruiz Jr went on to seal a seventh-round victory over Joshua - a first defeat for the Briton - and some feel he hasn't looked quite the same since.

With that in mind, Joshua, could have been excused for opting not to compete tonight.

"Damn, here we go again - late replacements aren't good for anyone," was Joshua's first thought, quickly followed by: "Do I fight or do I not fight?"

"Let's just rock and roll," the 33-year-old decided.

  15. Time for AJ to wind back the years?published at 21:43 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

BBC Sport at O2 Arena, London

Hello and welcome to the O2 Arena.

Even by boxing’s standards, it’s been an odd week.

The fallout from Dillian Whyte’s failed voluntary drugs test will continue over the coming weeks and months, but the show goes on.

We have an Anthony Joshua fight night. We have an opponent in Robert Helenius, who fought just seven days ago. We have a decent undercard.

And maybe, just maybe, we will see Joshua wind back the years with a ferocious, clinical stoppage. It’s all set up nicely for him.

  16. How did we get here?published at 21:41 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

Promoters Matchroom and boxing authorities were informed that Dillian Whyte had failed a voluntary drugs test last Saturday.

A "devastated" Whyte says he is "completely innocent".

Whyte had a doping violation charge dropped in 2019 after UK Anti-Doping said the levels of a banned steroid were "very low" and he was not at fault.

He served a two-year suspension from 2012 to 2014 for taking an illegal supplement.

A tribunal accepted Whyte's claim he did not knowingly take methylhexaneamine (MHA) but said he did not do enough to check the supplement's ingredients.

  17. The show must go onpublished at 21:39 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    Thanks for joining us!

Heavyweight boxing has been far from straightforward for a while so it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that this week has been anything but smooth.

There's usually an extra feeling of dazzle, intrigue and excitement during an Anthony Joshua fight week, but the events of the last seven days seem to have taken some of the shine off this one.

AJ was due to be stepping into the ring to face Dillian Whyte at London's O2 Arena tonight.

Whyte had the chance to earn revenge for his 2015 defeat to AJ and propel himself into the conversation for a title shot, however, after failing a voluntary drugs test, he was pulled from the card.

So, it's AJ v Robert Helenius instead tonight.

Credit to the Finn for stepping in on short notice - he fought last weekend!
