Thanks for joining us on a mixed night for British boxing.

Ellie Scotney came through the first defence of her IBF super-bantamweight title with a points win over Laura Soledad Griffa at OVO Arena.

However, the step up proved to much for Jordan Thompson as he was stopped in round four by IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia.

    Read Kal Sajad's report here.

The Australian was very impressive and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the future!

If you missed tonight's action, don't fear, we'll have highlights of the bout on BBC Sport tomorrow.

And, over at York Hall, Caroline Dubois took the next step in her career, easing to a unanimous decision win against Magali Rodriguez to win the IBO lightweight belt.

    Time for a lie down.

Dubois beats Rodriguez by unanimous decision

Promoter Ben Shalom tells Sky Sports: "It's the way she is developing that gives me confidence.

"She's 22 and I remember the way she performed in Cardiff on debut, there were no nerves. She is a special talent and this is a first title of many. 2024 will be a big year.

"They've been stacking them [WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF lightweight titles] for a while, Katie Taylor is a big star and I understand why, but Caroline is the next big star of big boxing and one of those governing bodies will recognise it very soon."

  3. 'So proud'published at 23:35 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

Dubois beats Rodriguez by unanimous decision

Trainer Shane McGuigan has had some night.

He coached Ellie Scotney to victory in her IBF super-bantamweight fight at OVO Arena before getting the Tube across to be in Caroline Dubois corner for her IBO lightweight title win a York Hall.

McGuigan told Sky Sports: "I'm so happy for her [Caroline Dubois].

"She's grown so much and is progressing all the time. She got hit with a few shots but adjusted well and got the knockdown. I'm so proud.

"It was a manic Tube journey across but I'm happy we got two victories."

  4. Dubois sets sights on Taylor and Cameronpublished at 23:29 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

Dubois beats Rodriguez by unanimous decision

IBO lightweight champion Caroline Dubois on Sky Sports: "Considering the circumstances, she was tough and came out swinging even when I dropped her. That's what I needed. I think it was a career-best performance but I've got more to give.

"I wanted the knockout. I'm 22, what's going to happen when I'm 25 or 26? I'll start knocking these girls spark out.

"She's a veteran, she knows how to get around. She tried pulling my shorts down, she spat her gumshield out. I was annoyed that was allowed to happen.

"Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron are tied off but when they are available for me I'll come out and take it. I'll be and the new!"

  5. 'Billam-Smith fight not easy to make'published at 23:24 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Opetaia beats Thompson by TKO

Eddie Hearn speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about Jai Opetaia: “A very special fighter. It was a gamble for Jordan. The word levels gets thrown around, but there is levels between Jordan Thompson and the king of this division.

“He showed a lot of heart and I think he’ll get a lot of respect, When he was badly hurt he dug his heels in. He was getting overrun.”

On a potential fight with Chris Billam-Smith: “Unfortunately Chris has got to fight Lawrence Okolie, which will put a dampener on his career. He should be saying to his promoters, can’t I go talk to Eddie Hearn and make a massive unification fight that every one wants to see for loads of money?

“Unfortunately it’s not that easy. He’s got a good team around him, I’m sure we’ll talk, don’t forget Opetaia has got a mandatory with Mairis Briedis, who was annoyed he couldn’t get a head-to-head [in the ring tonight]. I don’t think there’s a cruiserweight out there that can beat him.”

On being a clinical finisher: “You’ve got to flick that switch. It’s strictly business. I hope he’s okay, I hope he goes home safe to his family.”

    Caroline Dubois v Magali Rodriguez

Rodriguez looks much lighter on her feet now.

A nice right hook to the body and then an uppercut but it's too little too late.

The Mexican finishes on the front foot.

    Caroline Dubois v Magali Rodriguez

Rodriguez looks out on her feet after hitting the canvas.

It's a beautiful right hook that does the business.

That shot took a lot out of her and Dubois looks a little frustrated as the Mexican initially spits out her gumshield before then holding and trying to slow it down.

    Opetaia beats Thompson by TKO

Jai Opetaia has been speaking with BBC Radio 5 Live's Steve Bunce at ringside.

On the win: “I come here to earn respect, not disrespect. Chris Billam-Smith, I’d love to make that happen. I’d love that WBO around my waist.”

No ring rust?: “Like I said, even though we haven’t had the fights we’ve training hard, grinding. We haven’t had a lay off time. We’ve just been waiting for these platforms, for these arena fights. I knew they were coming. The first is finally under my belt and now onto the next one.”

On Thompson: “He was tough. I felt like the good ones really shook him up, but he come to fight. He had his whole country here supporting him. He showed great heart. I respect him so much. He brought good energy. Good on him.”

We won't be hearing from Jordan Thompson.

He was taken from the ring for treatment straight after the result was confirmed.

That will be difficult to take physically and mentally for the Mancunian.

It is the first loss of his professional career and showed the ground he still has to gain on those at the elite level.

The upside? Thompson is only 30 and doesn't have many miles on the clock - this was just his 16th fight.

  14. 'King of the division'published at 23:01 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Opetaia beats Thompson by TKO

Promoter Eddie Hearn on DAZN: "We've been lucky over the years to bring some quality fighters to this country, Gennady Golovkin, Gervonta Davis and Artur Beterbiev.

"I think this guy is a monster and can rule the division.

"Respect to Jordan, he's super tough, but this is a special fighter. This guy beat Briedis in Australia and I hope people over there are tuning in and watching. This guy can rule the division.

"Our job is make sure he brings every fight to Australia. We can make stadium fights there.

"I love Billam-Smith but I don't see anyone beating this guy [Opetaia]. He should be a national hero. He has The Ring Magazine belt, that makes him the King of the division.

"He came to the UK tonight in Thompson's backyard and did the business."

  15. 'I'm born for it'published at 22:56 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Opetaia beats Thompson by TKO

IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia on DAZN: "I told you. Those stare offs mean nothing. This is what I do, I'm born for it, I live for it.

"I thought this fight night was made about Jordan Thompson. They put me in this small ring thinking they were going to cut me off. I've got good footwork and they put me in this little ring but I've got the power too and they underestimated that and this is what happens.

"I hurt him early and got excited throwing bombs. When I got back to the corner they told me to relax it will come more natural. That's what happens when I do [relax] I can set up those shots.

"I felt good, like I said, all the operations are upgrades and now I'm looking forward. Who's next?

"I've been saying at all press conferences, I come to earn respect, not to disrespect. Chris Billam-Smith, I'd love to make that happen. I want that WBO around my waist."

That could and maybe should have been stopped at the end of round three, but the referee wanted to give Thompson every chance to try and show he was capable of staying in there.

His corner even said that they would only give him one more round to turn it around or they'd pull him.

That knockdown came just seconds after Thompson got the crowd on their feet.

He threw a powerful right but that just seemed to irk Opetaia, who came back with a three-punch combination and sent the challenger tumbling.

A big final minute for Opetaia as he senses blood and really goes on the attack.

Thompson is clinging on and stumbles back to the corner.

The referee might stop this soon.
