It looks like drivers are using this remaining time for qualifying practice.

Charles Leclerc is on a quick lap now on soft tyres.

Green light again and the drivers head out with just over 18 minutes to go.

So two crashes in this second practice, Fernando Alonso's caused by putting a wheel on the grass while Jack Doohan spun off at speed, with suggestions that DRS was open on the Alpine.

Fernando Alonso is OK but that car is not moving without assistance so he hops out and walks off behind the barriers.

Replays show he dipped a wheel onto the grass and that resulted in him losing control and flying into the gravel in the second Degner.

I've had friends that have been part of the Red Bull Academy in the past, this can be F3 level, and they have told me stories where they have had the academy boss or even Helmut Marko stick their head in the cockpit and say 'right, if you don't finish in third place, this will be it'. That's literally three minutes before they do the formation lap. They are brutal.

The cars are all lined up ready to go apart from Lewis Hamilton, who is hoping someone will be kind and let him slot in when a gap opens up.

If the drivers are anything like those I encounter trying to get off the Mancunian Way he has no chance.

A reminder that practice does not get extended for a red flag, the clock keeps ticking down, so this is a blow for drivers as they lose some valuable data-gathering time.

Jack Doohan has been taken to the medical centre. He was able to walk away from the crash but will need to be assessed to see if he is fit to race this weekend.

I don't think Doohan put a wheel on the grass but it was a fine margin.

The drivers are sat patiently in their cars hoping that they will be able to get back out soon.

Off the track some chap is doing some pretty cool tricks with a tennis ball and some string to keep the fans nearby entertained.

Red flag conditions could be in place for a while here as the barrier took a fair amount of damage from the crash.

There is a lot of debris and a barrier repair needed so this will be a long red flag.

Seeing the replay now and it is hard to see what exactly caused the crash. Jack Doohan was heading down to Turn One and the rear just suddenly went and he spun into the tyre wall. He was just a passenger there and clearly a bit shaken up when he radioed in to say he was OK.

Jack Doohan has clearly winded himself. There is a lot of damage to that Alpine. Doohan wasn't in the car for FP1 so he was down on mileage anyway.

Jack Doohan is helped out of the car by medical staff and taken away to be checked over.

Just waiting for a replay to see what exactly happened.

  19. red flag

Lots of debris where Jack Doohan has crashed and the red flag is waved while things get sorted.

  20. Crash!published at 07:08 British Summer Time 4 April

    Oh no!

Jack Doohan has not been on the track 10 minutes but he has gone off into the barrier at the first corner.

It is a pretty hefty crash with one tyre having come completely away. Thankfully he is OK.
