Lewis Hamilton is dropping off the pace ever so slightly compared to his team-mate. I don't think he's going to be close enough at all by the end of this race, it looks like he might have used up the best of his hard tyres.

But can he catch his Mercedes team-mate and challenge George Russell for the race victory? We shall see. Russell is on younger tyres than Hamilton.

The Ferrari of Charles Leclerc is splitting the two title rivals in fifth place. Max Verstappen is fourth and is clocking in on that fourth consecutive drivers' title.

Lewis Hamilton is five seconds behind George Russell and still banking fastest lap after fastest lap...

I think that was one of the easiest moves anyone has ever made on Max Verstappen in a racing scenario, he didn't fight that one at all as Carlos Sainz came by.

Verstappen is thinking with that championship in mind, just wants to make it to the end and tick it off the list.

He can. Max Verstappen lives to fight another lap after Charles Leclerc tries, but fails, to make his overtake stick.

    Lap 41/50

Max Verstappen is feeling the heat from the red of the Ferraris. The Red Bull driver has to deal with Carlos Sainz first as the Spaniard is hustling and makes his move down the inside at Turn 14. Can he hold off Charles Leclerc?

Max Verstappen is not challenging for the race lead tonight in Las Vegas - the Mercedes are just too quick. The Dutchman is keeping both Ferraris at arm's length as he runs in the final podium place, one step closer to a fourth title with Lando Norris down in sixth spot.

Jeremiah Kariuki: Mercedes have a great package this day. The car Hamilton is having looks very different from the one of the last race. So fast and good in handling it seems.

  11. 'Extraordinary performance by Hamilton'published at 07:07 Greenwich Mean Time

    Andrew Benson

This is an extraordinary performance by Lewis Hamilton so far, his tyres are five laps older than George Russell's and he's closing in. He's closed from 11.2 seconds to 8.7 seconds in four laps.

Sergio Perrez to get into the points and is fighting with two other cars going into one corner - and the Mexican succeeds. The Red Bull driver takes the inside line and ticks off a double overtake on Liam Lawson RB and the Haas of Kevin Magnussen to clinch 12th place.

This could be a win for Lewis Hamilton potentially but catching is one thing, passing is another, but he is setting the world on fire.

The contenders for sixth in the constructors' championship have formed a nice little pack. Yuki Tsunoda is eighth, Nico Hulkenberg is ninth and Esteban Ocon is now 10th.

George Russell is still out in front but that gap to his team-mate Lewis Hamilton is getting smaller.

    Lap 32/50

The long straights provide the perfect opportunity for Lewis Hamilton to make a pass on his old title rival. Max Verstappen knows he is not fighting with the Mercedes tonight, so it's an easy move for the seven-time world champion.

I think we are going to see a Mercedes one-two here, it's looking that way at the moment. Lewis Hamilton has set an on fire first sector and he is clawing his way back up to Max Verstappen.
