It's getting a bit crazy out there! I love that [message] from Isack Hadjar. It's almost reminds me of Yuki Tsunoda in his first year, that radio message - but a bit more PG and bit more tame!

  2. Team radio - Hadjar to Racing Bullspublished at 22:33 British Summer Time 13 June

Hadjar: "Mate! Who is that Sauber? That Sauber man!

Engineer: "They need to buy mirrors, yep."

Traffic on the track is causing issues. Isack Hadjar has been on the radio to his Racing Bulls engineer to complain about a Sauber.

  4. 'Not the best day for Colapinto'published at 22:29 British Summer Time 13 June

    Abbi Pulling
F1 Academy champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I don't think Jack Doohan was ever given enough time to flourish and to show what he was capable of. There were a few mistakes, but Franco Colanpinto has had more experience, being in the Williams last season. So, if you take that into account, no, Colapinto is not doing a better job than what Jack had done.

It's not been the best day for Franco, especially at Turn Two. He's not the biggest fan of it.

  5. Postpublished at 22:28 British Summer Time 13 June

George Russell remains at the top of the leaderboard in Canada. His lap time is 1:12.123.

His Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli is down to 12th spot.

Fellow rookie Franco Colapinto is 17th, he had a little spin earlier, similar to first practice - it's not been a good day for him today.

  6. Is Alonso back?published at 22:26 British Summer Time 13 June

Fernando Alonso grabbed his first points of the season in Spain.

It's been a tough start for the two-time world champion, but he has put his Aston Martin in fourth spot in second practice in Montreal.

Is he back? I hope so.

  7. Postpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 13 June

Isack Hadjar is really shining in his rookie year, the young Racing Bulls driver is fifth, four tenths behind George Russell who remains at the top spot.

  8. Postpublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 13 June

All three tyres are being used.

More on the new McLaren front suspension that has been brought to Canada this weekend. It has been developed in the hope of resolving the ‘numb’ front-end feeling both drivers have complained of this season, but which appears to have affected Lando Norris more than Oscar Piastri. It’s considered fundamental research to help both drivers with the best possible feedback, and is available to both should they want to use it. It remains to be seen whether either will adopt it for the rest of the weekend after Friday.

George Russell is currently the fastest driver in second practice.

He's set a time of 1:12.602 in the Mercedes.

Carlos Sainz has put his Williams into second spot.

Meanwhile, the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are seventh and 13th.

"Car is jumping like crazy at the rear."

  12. Postpublished at 22:15 British Summer Time 13 June

    18 drivers on track now.

  14. 'Strange' shunt for Strollpublished at 22:12 British Summer Time 13 June

    Abbi Pulling
F1 Academy champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It was really strange; I'm trying to figure out where he's done that. I think it looks like Turns Eight and Nine, but it could be similar to what Charles Leclerc did in the session before.

  15. Postpublished at 22:10 British Summer Time 13 June

We are back on track and McLaren's Lando Norris is the fastest driver.

Norris sets a time of 1:13.335.

Yellow flagpublished at 22:06 British Summer Time 13 June

A yellow flag has been waved. There is damage on the front left side of Lance Stroll's Aston Martin.

The Canadian driver missed the Spanish Grand Prix after experiencing pain in his hands, which the team said was the legacy of an operation after a cycling accident in February 2023

  17. 'Leclerc missing FP2 is a big blow'published at 22:04 British Summer Time 13 June

    Abbi Pulling
F1 Academy champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

A big mistake from Charles Leclerc [in first practice] with big consequences. Missing FP2 is a really big blow. They'll want to get as much data as possible with only having one car on track. Hopefully Ferrari can get it sorted before tomorrow, but who knows. It could be a big job.

  18. Postpublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 13 June

First out on the circuit is the Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton.

He got his maiden win here in 2007 and has won the Canadian Grand Prix seven times.

19 cars will take part, Charles Leclerc will sit this one out after he crashed his car in first practice.
