Lily, Jim and Ed from London, holding Ura, Ichiyamamoto and Shodai towels inside the Royal Albert Hall - 'I feel like from what I've seen of the other nights, they're really putting on an amazing Dynamic show, showing a lot of techniques so I'm excited to see what they bring out today.

'I've been following all over the socials, all the sumos going out and about in London all week as well, they feel like it's a completely different Dynamics to the tournaments in Japan.

''I hope the wrestlers will be really impressed by the level of fandom in the UK.

'We've been speaking to people outside as well. There's so many big Sumo fans here and I don't know how many people outside the UK are aware, just like how many huge Sumo fans there are!'

All sumo wrestlers have a ring name, called shikona, usually assigned by their oyakata (stable master). Many shikona reference the oyakata or the history of the stable, often evoking strength, determination, spirit, and victory.

Some also reference myths, natural elements, animals, places, names, fighting styles, or a combination of any of these. Rikishi from the same stable often have similar ring names.

    Interesting examples are:

    • Wakatakakage, Wakamotoharu and Wakatakamoto, three brothers from the same stable. The ring names reference their grandfather, Komusubi Wakabayama, the three sons of the 16th century Japanese parable "Lesson of the three arrows" – Takamoto, Motoharu, and Takakage.
    • Tobizaru - “flying monkey” - a reference to the rikishi’s fighting style and his birth
    • Churanoumi - “beautiful sea“ - a reference to the sea of Okinawa

We want to know what would your sumo ring name be? You might need one if you want to play a fantasy sumo game!

And yes, of course fantasy sumo is a thing!
