  1. Final lappublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 28 July

    Lap 44/44

We're on to the last lap and Lewis Hamilton suffers a small lock-up - is that enough to end his challenge on George Russell?!

Oscar Piastri is hounding the pair in the final podium place but it doesn't look like the McLaren will be able to rocket-boost his way past the two Silver Arrows.

My word this is a long lap. Is Russell going to win this?

Still not close enough. It is going to be frustrating for Hamilton.

This one-stop is doing some serious heavy lifting for George Russell. Another lap goes by and the younger of the two Mercedes drivers stays ahead.

Turn 13 comes and goes and Russell is leading Lewis Hamilton for this race win. The seven-time world champion is looking for the slipstream but still he can't get closer.

The moment looks to be on for Lewis Hamilton to pass George Russell, but the pull out is abandoned as he decides to hold off... for now. The gap now is down to 0.496 seconds.

And in the background, the McLaren of Oscar Piastri is lurking in P3.

  5. 'Hamilton has to be patient here'published at 15:19 British Summer Time 28 July

    Marc Priestley
Former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Hamilton has got to be patient here. He still has a couple of laps to do this. I suspect next time Lewis with the DRS will be able to get past.

This is going to be an impressive day for Mercedes.

    Lap 41/44

Hang on. Are George Russell and Lewis Hamilton free to race now? It looks like it. Just don't do anything stupid, lads.

Hamilton is following Russell's every move on fresher hard tyres - it's 30 laps to 14 laps - with the gap 0.596-seconds.

  7. 'Hamilton chipping away'published at 15:17 British Summer Time 28 July

    Marc Priestley
Former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

We’re seeing a hard tyre that is very robust – it should be a straightforward past for Hamilton.

He’s chipping away at it – it is still going to be close.

  8. Five laps to gopublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 28 July

    Lap 40/44

"Go looooong!" is George Russell's strategy in Belgium. The Mercedes driver can help out his team-mate Lewis Hamilton in second place - but where do the team perform the switcheroo?

The seven-time world champion has drawn closer as the pair exit the final corner...

  9. Postpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 28 July

The day hasn't been too kind to Sergio Perez after the Mexican started on the front row in P2. The Red Bull man is in seventh but here comes the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. Vamos! Round the outside goes the Spaniard and Perez falls to P8.

George Russell is one stop less than the rest of the quick runners but the Mercedes driver is still leading this race as we head towards its conclusion.

Lewis Hamilton is sitting in second spot, with the very fast McLaren Oscar Piastri in third place.

  12. 'Great driving by both Piastri and Leclerc'published at 15:11 British Summer Time 28 July

    Marc Priestley
Former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

That was great driving from both of them.

Leclerc pushed him but this time Piastri went round the outside – and committed. Great driving and great respect from the both of them.

He needs to get his elbows out more often.

Oscar Piastri is making Lewis Hamilton nervous on the team radio. The Australian is running in fourth and is currently hassling Charles Leclerc's Ferrari for the final podium place. The Monegasque driver stays ahead, but the McLaren is rapidly becoming a threat to the top three.

The really exciting part of this is that we have a lot of cars on different strategies and we will see it converging in the closing laps.

The two Mercedes have the opportunity to do what they want.

  18. 'Rare occurence of wrong strategy for Red Bull'published at 15:04 British Summer Time 28 July

    Marc Priestley
Former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

This is a rare occurrence where Red Bull have got their strategy strong.

They opted to use their hard tyres earlier in the weekend and were left with these mediums.

    They could be left floundering.

  19. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 28 July

George Russell is now the leader of this race at Spa and his engineer calls in to says they think these hard tyres, that are 21-laps old, can hold up to the pressure.

Piastri is now running in fourth place, just as his team-mate Lando Norris passes Sergio Perez for sixth place.
