  1. 'Winner between Piastri, Hamilton and Leclerc'published at 15:00 British Summer Time 28 July 2024

    Andrew Benson
    BBC F1 correspondent

To me it looks like the win is between Piastri, Hamilton and Leclerc.

We’ve got to keep one eye on Verstappen and he gets on his medium tyres.

The McLaren heads down the pit lane and exits ahead of the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz in P7. Lando Norris has to pull up his socks and mentally prepare himself for another scrap with title rival Max Verstappen.

Hards for Norris, medium for the Red Bull of Verstappen.

Max Verstappen also wants a change of rubber and is swapped over to those medium tyres. The Dutchman rejoins in seventh, with Carlos Sainz on the opposition compound, the hards, in P8.

Lando Norris needs is running in third but McLaren yell "box, box" to the Briton.

This is looking good, McLaren tell Oscar Piastri on the team radio. The Australian has made one stop but is clocking up the fastest laps with a 1:47.024.

"Clear air is king," says the McLaren driver.

Carlos Sainz is coming in to pit, lifting Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc up the order.

  5. 'Russell feels like rolling the dice'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 28 July 2024

    Marc Priestley
Former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It is always interesting when you hear a driver suggesting a strategy.

Russell is feeling like he might be able to roll the dice and do something a little bit different.

    Lap 27/44

Mercedes are ready for Lewis Hamilton to head in to pit. The stop is a second faster than Ferrari and the seven-time world champion rejoins the action on the hards ahead of Charles Leclerc.

Oscar Piastri now leads, George Russell is second and Max Verstappen is third.

Hamilton slots into sixth, Leclerc stays seventh.

Jeremiah: Perez is the sacrificial lamb. After that overtake by Russell, no other option.

It is. Ferrari pull the Charles Leclerc and fit his car with hard tyres. The stop is 3.4 seconds and the Monegasque man comes out in seventh.

  9. 'Perez's race was compromised'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 28 July 2024

    Marc Priestley
Former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I can’t help but think Perez’ race has been compromised being brought in to the pits. He will have to go a long way on that final set of tyres and that is hugely disappointing to finish at the bottom of the top ten, having started at the front.

    Fourth, third, fourth, first, third...first?

Lewis Hamilton's resurgance this season looks set to continue here.

The long wait for a win for Lewis Hamilton was ended in style at the British Grand Prix a few weeks ago but can he claim a second before the summer break arrives here at Spa-Francorchamps?

Is this Charles Leclerc coming in to pit?

Max Verstappen and Lando Norris reach the Kemmel straight and luckily for the sea of orange shirts in the crowd, the McLaren isn't close enough to make a move.

Yuki Tsunoda is at the Le Combes-chicane and is trying to challenge Logan Sargeant for 17th place.

Well held by the American Williams driver. Try again, Yuki.

That pit stop for Sergio Perez has given us a Max Verstappen-Lando Norris track battle. The McLaren is on the rear wing of the Red Bull in the hunt for fifth place.

Lewis Hamilton's lead out in front, meanwhile, holds a two-second gap over the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

    Lap 22/44

A decent stop by Red Bull releases Sergio Perez back out into the wild in eighth place. The Mexican has changed to the hard tyre, but he has information for his pit wall.

"We are very slow in the straights," he says.

  15. 'So frustrating for Perez'published at 14:44 British Summer Time 28 July 2024

    Marc Priestley
Former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

That’s got to be so frustrating for Perez. He now has his teammate all over his mirrors.

If you are on the pit wall, it makes total sense not holding up Verstappen.

I can' help thinking his pit stop was engineered to get him out of the way of Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton retakes the lead of the Belgian Grand Prix as Carlos Sainz waves goodbye to his hard tyres.

George Russell is making waves in his Mercedes and a gap opens up for the Silver Arrow to dart through on Sergio Perez. Russell is up to fourth, Perez is in fifth - and now team-mate Max Verstappen is right behind him.

But Perez is called into the pits and the Dutchman takes fifth spot.

There is only one Sauber in this race now and Valtteri Bottas is carrying the torch. The Finn overtakes the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg for P14.

Lando Norris has clocked the fastest lap of the grand prix in the McLaren but the Briton is still down in eighth place following the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

Dan: Nice to be watching a race where genuinely any of the top eight might win this.

Rich: Those opening laps say everything you need to know about Hamilton. He’s a natural born racer.

  19. 'Vertappen needs to spend a little tyre life'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 28 July 2024

    Marc Priestley
Former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Verstappen needs to get past those two cars.

He needs to spend a little tyre life but maybe he doesn’t have enough of a performance advantage.

Carlos Sainz's hard tyres are 18-laps old now compared to the drivers behind him, so Ferrari are on the blower to suggest "Plan B for medium" might be the way forward.

"Let's wait a couple more laps," the Spaniard replies.
