Hello, folks. Formula 1 mixed with Christmas decorations can only mean one thing: the end of the school year. However, any thoughts of winding down gently have gone out of the window.

The penultimate grand prix of the season in Qatar last weekend has left a sour taste in some drivers' mouths - mainly race winner Max Verstappen's at the mention of George Russell. His one-place grid drop for driving too slowly during qualifying is still the talk of the paddock, with neither driver willing to back down on the matter.

First practice in Abu Dhabi goes green at 09:30 GMT.

Second practice gets under way at 13:00 GMT.

Commentary on both sessions will be available BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, BBC Sounds, at the top of this page using the 'listen live' tab and via most smart speakers.

We started in March and now it's December. Race number 24 in this long Formula 1 season is finally here and it's time to prepare our farewells.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix doesn't just bring the curtain down on the 2024 campaign - and some drivers careers in the sport - it also signals the end of Lewis Hamilton's illustrious career with Mercedes before his much-anticipated switch to Ferrari for 2025.

There is one trophy still to decided at this Yas Marina weekend...
