Damon Hill 1996 world champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra at Silverstone
The gap now is up to six seconds and Lando Norris has put a fastest lap a moment ago and he is making sure Oscar Piastri gets the message "I'm here and I'm going to stay, I'm going faster than you. I'm in front".
Is Oliver Bearman, who picked up a 10-place grid penalty for this race, going to challenge the Mercedes of George Russell towards the end? The Haas driver is looking quick and is P11, with fellow Briton Russell taking up the last points place in P10.
McLaren are free to race in these final laps but I'm not sure we'll be seeing any on-track tussles to end this Silverstone weekend. Lando Norris is now over six seconds clear of his team-mate Oscar Piastri, with Nico Hulkenberg holding tight in third.
Lando Norris is over five seconds clear of team-mate Oscar Piastri and closing in on a maiden home win. I wonder what the Australian will have to say about his penalty?
Max Verstappen is unhappy with the car, Charles Leclerc has just taken another trip across the gravel; this has been a British Grand Prix to forget for the some of the big names.
Lewis Hamilton has just banked the fastest lap on his soft compound but the Ferrari man is still fourth - Nico Hulkenberg is still third.

Lap 45/52
Lando Norris is in and out quick smart on some medium tyres and is ahead of his team-mate and leading the British Grand Prix. The advantage Norris holds with only a few laps left is 4.3 seconds.
Whoa there! Piastri has a huge moment at Copse while in secod place. Nico Hulkenberg is still in third place and is clocking fastest laps.

Lap 44/52
Oscar Piastri stays stationary and takes his punishment for the safety car infringement - the one that saw Max Verstappen twitch and end up down the order. Piastri comes out on the medium compound.
Lando Norris now leads the race, and McLaren decide it's time to bring in the Briton for his changeover.
Looking at Russell and Alonso, they've lost a lot of time so it's actually not going to benefit them but they are starting to set green which is their fastest and occasionally a purple mini sector. They are beginning to get back into it but they've lost something like 20 seconds to the rest of the field so it's not going to pay off for them.
The McLarens are way ahead of the field and now Oscar Piastri is called in to the pits. Will the Australian serve his 10-second penalty now? Yes he will.

Lap 42/52
The pits comes alive as drivers begin to come in for slicks. Ferrari bolt on softs for Lewis Hamilton, who has now fallen to fifth place because his team-mate Charles Leclerc has just passed him. Those cold tyres did Hamilton no favours. Did they now learn from Russell and Alonso?

Ian: 3rd place podium looks doable for Lewis
Ngiema: Hamilton definitely has the mojo today on his home race, he may have an average car but he’s getting my nomination for today’s overtakes and overall entertainment
Kayleigh: Pls Lewis, you’ve had many podiums. Let Hulk have this one x
Richard: What a mega British GP! Safety cars everywhere, pit stops and rain, Hamilton fighting for a podium, and it’s only lap 38!
Carlos Sainz had a rant on the team radio a lap or two ago about his old Ferrari pal Charles Leclerc, the Spaniard unhappy with the Monegasque man's moves. The stewards have taken a look but have decided to take no further action.

Lap 40/52
The rool of the dice hasn't paid off for George Russell and Mercedes. The Briton goes flying across the gravel at Maggotts but doesn't come to any harm. He drops down to P14, one place higher than fellow slicker Fernando Alonso.

I would look at what Fernando Alonso does and think to myself that is a sign because Fernando hardly gets it wrong. It is starting to dry very quickly, I can see that there is light grey patches now on the track. Once that starts, things will rapidly switch to the slick tyres. Once you get the slick tyres on it is unbelievable how much grip you get.
Fernando Alonso is struggling on his fresh mediums as he searches for a dry line on his slicks. George Russell gets his wish and goes onto the hards, so is he doing any better than the Spaniard?
